Re: Is T42 possible to install ubuntu 12
Why not try Lubuntu (Ubuntu with LXDE)-- I am running it on a t43p, which could barely handle Windows XP, but runs very well with Lubuntu 12.10.

Re: Disable t43p touchpad under (L)ubuntu
I guess I did not make it clear that I want to be able to use the touchpad when I am NOT typing.
There a KDE package called synaptik that does the job on other machines, but it load a huge part of the bloated KDE stuff, which my light-weight Lubuntu was trying to avoid....

Disable t43p touchpad under (L)ubuntu
I have a t43p running Lubuntu 12.04. The cursor jumps around randomly, probably because of the touchpad. It works perfectly under Windows, though, so I know it is a software issue. I tried various tricks for disabling the touchpad, but they all failed.
Any suggestions?

Re: Installed LinuxMint 11 LXDE and LOVING IT!!!
I have also used Lubuntu (Ubuntu with LXDE) to breath new life into several old machines that could not deal with XP, but work VERY well with Lubuntu. I am writing this on an X1 Tablet that was simply useless with XP, and is great with Lubuntu, although I am having trouble keeping the wireless worki...

Re: Love my (free) X41 Tablet... now how to upgrade it?
Like you, I was given one of these machines, and I adore it. However, the hard drive is much too slow, and I am thinking of putting an SSD into it to replace the very slow HD. I tried running WINDOWS XP on it, but it was much too slow. On the other hand, Ubuntu (Linux-- the light version, named Lubu...

Re: T43p keyboard half dead
I did remove the kb and vaccumed whatever I could. The result is that now other letters are dead, mostly at the bottom of the kb and the ENTER key.... I guess it is time for the compressed air (I had not tried that yet).I saw no dust around, but I am sure there is a lot of it inside-- I live in NYC.

T43p keyboard half dead
After several years of loyal service, part of my t43p keyboard died-- no M, V, , etc.
If I turn it off and wait, it sometimes recovers when I reboot, but not always.
It sounds like a heating problem, but what might it be?
Is there anything I can do? I would hate to lose it if it can be revived.
Thanks

Re: Keyboard fails when battery is inserted
I do not know how to reset the KB connector, but since the TP works fine on AC it seems irrelevant. Do I have to disassemble the tp to reset the kb connector?

Keyboard fails when battery is inserted
I have a T43p (2668 PDU, XP, SP3). It used to work just fine, other than its known tendency to overheat and the cooling fan that failed after 3 years and was replaced (it still tends to overheat, even with the new fan). When I insert a battery (regardless of whether the AC power is still plugged in ...

My t43p is also VERY noisy and very hot. I suspect that dust had accumulated inside-- is it hard to remove the keyboard? Does that give you good access to the inside?

Re: Access COnnection kills wireless network connection
Before posting my original post, I had uninstalled the Wireless driver and Access Connection.. I then re-installed the latest (Jan 2009) wireless driver, and re-installed the latest (5.2, I think) Access Connection. Before I installed Access Connection the WiFi worked fine (using the Windows XP util...

I installed some MS Windos XP updates, and noticed that my machine (T43p) was getting VERY warm, as if something new was running furiously in it. DRIVERS folder on T43p-- can it be deleted or trimmed?
I have a huge (2.4 gb) folder named DRIVERS on my T43p XP laptop. I cannot believe that all that is necessary-- how do I trim it to what is needed, and toss away the rest (cab files, etc.)? It is one of the largest folders on my laptop!

I have a t43p that is about one year old. I am running Notebook Hardware control v. 2 on it, and it shows that the CPU temperature is 90 deg. C even when I am doing practically nothing on the machine. I have 2 GB of ram on it, and a 100 gb hard drive, but no USB is plugged in at the time. Why has it...

Fingerprint reader
For no reason, my fingerprint reader now requires TWO cycles of confirmations, separated by some other screen with the user name and password. One used to be enough, which was fine by me.
How do I eliminate the second one? I looked at the so called software, but saw no such option.
Thanks,

Software Installer
Has anyone from IBM or Lenovo looked at their so called SOFTWARE INSTALLER? It is an insult to the users. It tries and fails to update programs and drivers because "a newer version is installed on your computer" etc. Is it so difficult to do what the debian/Ubuntu systems do in keeping stuff up to d...

I am monitoring my t43p with the Centrino Hardware Control, and I noticed that the CPU temperature sometimes changes within minutes from over 70 C to 45C or so. This seems like a rather large change. My T40p with XP asks me to log on each time I open the LCD cover. I used to be able to simply swipe my finger on the fingerprint reader, and it will proceed fine from there. Now, for some odd reason, it ALSO asks for a password. If I respond by swipping my finger on the fingerprint reader, it asks f...
