Apparently, even the review unit PC Magazine has got is plagued bu Ultrabase problems. Read on here: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1942268,00.asp It is clear that some people have no problem with their Ultrabase, but, IMHO, the engineering on the X6 is seriously foobared. While I have mostly ...

Re: New HP machines vs X60(s)?
The new HP machines (nc2400, nc4400) seem pretty nice. One thing that I have immediately noticed about the nc2400 is that it uses the dreaded 1.8-inch hard drive. Yes, the same drive used in the X40 and the iPod. Which means that it is slow as hell and not upgradeable. Even though the nc2400 comes ...

I am happy with the machine itself (i.e. it is very fast, very small, looks cute), but, if my experience is worth anything, the build quality is dismal. The machine feels solid, but suffers from some rather dumb manufacturing defects. Check out the threads on docking station problems and on case war...

A little update... In the case of my current X60s, it is not the X6 Ultrabase to blame. It has been sloppy manufacturing of the front rubber feet on the laptop itself! I have recently noticed that the front left rubber foot does not rest on the desk when the screen is open. Following a helpful sugge...

I have a little update for you. The left rubber is the right one but under the right rubber there is another rubber(clear). Take this out and put the black rubber feet back. Now your X60s will stand on both feets solid as a rock :-) You are right on the money again (how do you know these things?)! ...

It will stay on the desk because the weight of the screen will bend the edge a little bit down. The left front is a bit softer than because of the pcmcia slot I think. Just look at the rubber. I bet your left one is a bit smaller/shorter. Well, I'll be darn! It is indeed a fraction of a millimeter ...

Re: Mine is in the process of being replaced
If there was a bad batch and they now have ones that work, why didn't they do a recall??? :? They darn well should recall all of them! If you look at the poll numbers above, you will see that quite a lot of people have this problem... Heck, I have personally seen it on 3 Thinkpads! Unbelievable.

I don't think your chassis is warped. There are some X60s where a wrong rubber is installed in the left front. Take a look and see if the left rubber is smaller than the right one(by 1mm or something like that). If so call Lenovo/IBM and ask for a rubber kit. I will check it today. The reason why I...

Re: Warped chassis: easily fixable, or don't bother at all?
It looks like I have had really bad luck with my X60s's... :( Not only my Ultrabase is one of the defective lot - the machine's chassis are also warped! If your machine is within the 30 day return period, simply call for an RMA and send it back. If not, then call tech support and ask to have your c...

Warped chassis: easily fixable, or don't bother at all?
It looks like I have had really bad luck with my X60s's... :( Not only my Ultrabase is one of the defective lot - the machine's chassis are also warped! When the screen is closed, the computer sits on the desk with all of its four rubber feet. However, when the screen is opened, the front left rubbe...

Re: Mine works.
... ThinkPads are not that good from a "fit and finish" perspective... At this point, I do feel disappointed. An expensive "business" laptop just should not have any simple mechanical problems like that. What's more, my experience with their support and customer service was nothing short of horribl...

X6 Ultrabase: are most of them defective???
Right now I am through my third  1704-4JU, and all three of the X6 Ultrabases have come with the same mechanical defect - namely, the latch on the left does not work as it should! I have ordered my first machine directly from Lenovo. They have mistakenly sent me TWO... And neither of the Ultra...

My favorite shortcut, Windows-M (hides all windows and shows desktop) does not work through Ctrl-Esc. For me, this alone makes Windows key somewhat worthwile. However, the "context menu" key Lenovo added on the right side is utterly ridiculous and totally useless (yet for some reason nobody has yet ...

It looks like the Ultrabase problem is a rather common one. I have got two X60s's shipped to me in error (model 1704-4JU), and *both* of them did not charge from the Ultrabase or see the CDRW. I have tried applying pressure, latching and unlatching with no success. In one of the laptop-ultrabase com...
