T40p

Just purchased a T40p to be used as parts for my somewhat beat up T41p.Are keyboard, palm rest and most other parts interchangeable? Most importantly can I just put the WinXP HD of the T40p directly into the T41p and be good to go? I have restore discs for the T41p.Thanks.

Re: T30 HD to T41P

Thanks Neil and Ray.I was hoping I might get lucky and just be able to swap HD's and be good to go.I will get a HD cover and put a fresh install on the T41p.For the past 3+ years my wife has really beaten up the T30, even carrying it by the screen and it still keeps on going. What a tank!

T30 HD to T41P

I have a T30 with SXGA and I will be getting a T41p without HD and Caddy. Are they compatible? Which one would you prefer? Thanks.

If you are unable to sublet and you need a hotel room you might do well by going to a suburb like Stamford and taking MetroNorth. You may be able to get a room for as little as $50 on Priceline.

Still have not addressed the problem since the machine is a back-up.Interestingly one has appeared on ebay with the exact same screen distortion.Listing # 160071954062.Still leaning towards a bad screen.

Completely agree with Ray.My spouse and I think that SXGA with a 15"screen is perfect. We use it on our A20p which is 6 years old.Great for web surfing.

Ray,Thanks for devoting some of your time and brain cells to this one. What is amazing is that the rest of the !5 inch screen is unaffected. It just seems that there must be a loose connection because the flickerering includes glimpses of everthing displayed on the unaffected screen.

Tried putting pressure on both the LCD and the backside of LCD to no avail. What come across very faintly on the distortion ia actually a duplicate of the top portion of screen-for example,thinkpads.com Support Community.Could this be a clue the diagnosis?

Thanks Ray for your astute and comprehensive analysis.Since I will probably pay someone to do this,if you were a betting man do you think its the ribbon cable? The screen is still fresh and bright-would hate to lose it.

Screen Distortion

I have an A20p that has suddenly lost the bottom inch of the screen to distortion.By moving the LCD back and forth I can usually correct the problem. The rest of the screen is unaffected at all times. Can someone diagnose the problem with any certainty? It is my favorite laptop with the perfect resolut...

Replaced my T30 with an a21m with a 14 inch screen for under 200$.Does anyone think it possible that in a couple of years the price of a T30 system board will drop or is that too farfetched?

I have a bad system board.Does it pay to fix it for 400$ when its only used for internet access?Would I be better off with a refurbished T23 or similiar?Where are my dollars best spent?Any thoughts? Thanks
