thanks AAA

Bus speed 1066, the 800mhz T61 will not support that.

But yeah, it can take faster cpus, it's just that there are T60 Core 2's that won't work, T400 Core 2's that won't work, etc.

T61 and T400 CPU swap?

is it possible to swap the cpus?
the T61 has a 1.8Ghz T7100 processor and the T400 has a p8600 processor

is it possible to swap the two processors around?

or if i have a slower core 2 laptop, can i swap the processor to a faster core 2 processor?

Re: 2 gigs RAM

Weogo wrote:Hi Muscleflex,

Simple, install a 2 gig card in the open slot.
XP will only recognize a max of 2 gigs, but it works fine.

Good health, Weogo
hi - thanks for that! i'm so getting a 2gig stick!!! lol

Re: Report on CF conversion

Nice review  Addonics adapter seems to be one of the best... But I keep on saying that the PACF18H is the only one wich is really designed for the IBM X40/41 and also supports UDMA. This adapter has the same size as the Hitachi 1.8 drive and fits perfectly. http://www2.multithread.co.uk/mtcsh...

the head of the screw is rounded already :-( and it's the screw (if you're looking at the X41's bottom with the LCD latch close to your tummy) that's on the top right hand side... so it's kinda buried deep so not easy to just dremel a notch for a flat screw driver. i've heard of screw extractors but...

Hi - anyone know how to get a messed up screw off an X41 laptop? would a screw extractor work? will it be small enough for the head of the screw?

the head of the screw is messed up hence i can't get the keyboard off :-(

this is a common problem with the R40. we have a lot of R40's in the company and most of them have gone back to IBM for repair because of this. it's not the cable but the actual port where you insert the cable into. IBM claims it's to do with the motherboard... but it will be expensive to have it re...
