Then that is not good for me.
Let's hope the ebay seller is willing to accept the items back.

Thinkpad X301 and 16GB RAM
I probably made a mistake. I bought 2 8G modules and put them in my Thinkpad X301 but it won't turn on. ThinkWiki said Thinkpad X301 supports 16G of RAM while Lenovo said it supports 8G of RAM. Has anyone put 16G of RAM into their thinkpad x301?

It's just too dim.. It irritates me. I don't understand the reason for thinkpad to have such dim screen whether it is being used inside all day or not. It still bothers my eyes. I like thinkpad's body but hate the screen.

Re: Why Thinkpad's screen so dim?
That's not a good reason. I was trying to impress my friend with Ubuntu and my beautiful Thinkpad. She has a very ugly Acer. I put my thinkpad next to hers and start to show the 3d desktop. She asked me why my screen is so dark. I realized it is already on max brightness. It is very dim compare to t...

Why Thinkpad's screen so dim?
The brightness of my Thinkpad X61 is not even comparable to the cheapest acer laptop. I am pee'd. I like my Thinkpad's body but hate the screen.

I have an X61. I have tried both 32 and 64 bit Ubuntu Karmic. Under 64-bit, it uses twice as much RAM. But it seems a little speedier than 32-bit. Java seems a little slower on 64-bit.

Re: 12 Cell Battery for X61s
I don't think it will fit in the ultrabase (for this particular battery). If you look at the ebay pictures, the additional 4 cells are added to the end of the battery at a 90 degree angle downwards. I bought a 12 cells battery for my X61. Yeah it won't fit the Ultrabase.. The battery protrudes down...

Re: Ubuntu Compiz Cube can't get the cube
By default, Ubuntu does not come with the cube plugin. For the cube and many other plug-ins you need to install additional software.
compiz-gnome
compiz-plugins
compiz-fusion-plugins-extra
compiz-fusion-plugins-main
Then configure it to use a cube.

Lenovo Thinkpad's screen brightness
Why does Thinkpads' screens are so dim compare to others the PoweBbook? I bought a used powerbook for $250 and it's much much brighter than my x61. It's kind of sad that when Lenovo emphasis quality, they don't put much emphasis on the screen. This will determine my next decision to buy a laptop. Pe...

Re: OCZ MiniPCI-Express SSD
I thought about buying one for my laptop. But when others said X61 does not support booting from the card.. I decided not to buy it. If the X61 could boot from it, I would take out the hard drive to reduce the weight of the laptop.

I have an X60 and an X61. The X60 was a 1.8 Ghz Core Duo and the X61 was a 2.2 Ghz Core 2 Duo. I actually think the X61 was cooler. It never really got hot enough to be uncomfortable. OpenSolaris 2009.06 is out
Has anyone tried OpenSolaris 2009.06? I have installed it on a 16 GB flash drive and boot from it. Everything works. The volume up and down keys work. Other thinkpad keys do not seem to work. Probably no one has written key binding for them. You can assign the manually from preferences>short cut. I ...

Re: Super Talent 16GB MLC Mini PCIe SATA2 Solid State Drive
I have considered this too, but the consensus seems to be that it will only work as a storage drive. The Thinkpad BIOS will not allow you to boot off of mini-PCIE. In fact, I have only known Netbook motherboards to boot from PCIE. Of course, that doesn't preclude you from putting the boot sector on...

A friend bought a netbook. I'm glad I have my X61. I watched him play with the netbook..painfully. The screen is just too small to do any real work. It's nice for emailing, and maybe browse this forum.

Re: Super Talent 16GB MLC Mini PCIe SATA2 Solid State Drive
It should be usable like any normal sata2 hard drive. I haven't tried.
But I have been thinking about using the PCIe SATA2 SSD instead of my internal hard drive. I would reduce my the weght of my thinkpad if I removed the hard drive and install one PCIE SATA2 SSD.

The answer is No. It's a hardware limitation, not the OS.
If u really need 4 G or more RAM, switch to a T61.
32 bit Linux can support up to 64 G of RAM.
I'm using 4 G of RAM on a 32 bit Ubuntu (had to use the server kernel).

I'm trying out the LiveCD of the developer release of opensolaris 09-06. It's nice. Ithink it is likely that I will replace Ubuntu with OpenSolaris when they it.
