Re: X1 Carbon Gen 12 - Yuck!

I used that option on a heavily scratched X1 carbon several years ago and found it to be very successful. IIRC, I found my skin in eBay.

Re: X1 Carbon Gen 12 - Yuck!

Thanks again RBS. I just finished viewing a few of the videos and reading the HMM. The computer needs to be gutted, which I did for my Gen 5 and swore that I would never do it again. How I long for the good old days when the bottom of the computer was the base instead of the keyboard frame. :?

Re: X1 Carbon Gen 12 - Yuck!

Thanks RBS. Replacing the keyboard frame makes the most sense but I dread the tear-down required to replace that part.

Re: X1 Carbon Gen 12 - Yuck!

I've been using my X1 G12 now for about 1-1/2 years and it has been performing fine but the black coating is wearing off the edges of the palmrest. I'm more than mildly annoyed. Any suggestions?

My only “complaint” is that the magnets are a little weak and the cables can get pulled off when I reposition my laptop.

Re: USB-C/Thunderbolt Magnetic breakaway connector

I got the straight versions since I have two USB-C ports side-by-side and a USB-A port next to those. No interference that way.

Thanks @dr_st! I should have mentioned the USB 3.0 feature of the i7 model. This configuration includes one USB 3.0 port and two USB 2.0 ports (one powered). It also includes a 4-in-1 reader (SD, SDHC, SDXC, MMC), and an ExpressCard/34, ExpressCard/54 slot. Additionally, I should mention that I'm th...

Yes, I tried each of the compatibility mode settings and also running as administrator. I’ve also run sfc and dism (although this is a factory install) and all is good. I can see the device in explorer and device manager.

Windows 11 & Ironkey

I just migrated from an X1C G5 running Windows 10 to a G12 running Windows 11, and my Ironkey S1000 encrypted USB thumb drive won’t work. It works fine on all of my Windows 10 machines but when I run the unlocking executable the executable thinks that I’m running Linux and need to run a Linux execut...

Migrating from Win10 X1C to New Win11 X1C

My X1C Gen 12 will arrive within a week. Has anyone had a positive experience using software such as Zinstall or PCMover to migrate to a new laptop? It would take me weeks to start from scratch on the new laptop.

Resurrecting an old thread. I've looked high and low for a decent 01AV430 for my Gen5 and can't find a Lenovo or an aftermarket worth a darn. After 2 aftermarket attempts that failed, I don't know where to turn. Any suggestions / success stories? TIA.

Thanks RBS. I downloaded the driver and will try it on Monday. I have an unknown device error message for ACPI\IBM0068\5&2890d699&0. Hopefully the driver that you recommended will solve that problem.

Virus in driver repository?

I'm posting this here because it doesn't seem to fit anywhere else. I downloaded a T30 power management driver from the driver repository here and Windows Defender flagged it as containing CandyOpen. I never executed the driver and deleted the file, but Windows Defender still showed that the file wa...

I thought that I had seen that post before but it didn’t come up when I searched. The key to this approach is a good flux. I use MG Chemicals 8341-10ML 8341 and a 15W Hakko FX650-02/P with a T34-B Tip on all of my micro-soldering projects.

T30 Memory connector repair

Resurrecting and old thread. I picked up a T30 in beautiful condition that had a dead memory socket. It seems that this was common problem with some of the earlier T30s. The solution was to mask off areas adjacent to the pins with Kapton tape, liberally apply flux, and run a soldering pencil back an...

FREE: Used X230 Keyboard

Does anyone need a lighted keyboard for an X230? These are parts that I replaced when I sold mine. The keyboard has minimal wear but there is a scratch on the bezel toward the back. If you pay the shipping cost and PayPal fees then these items are yours. I have a listing on eBay but prefer to give t...
