Many thanks for the tips and strategies. Will implement momentarily.Conmee wrote:The easiest way around all this is to install Powertoys and run the TweakUI applet. Under the logon option is autologon. You can specify which account you want to autologon or disable it.

T20 with new XP Pro install booting into Administrator?
I have a used T20 that seems in pretty fair shape. I did an upgrade from Win 2000 Pro to XP Pro. Otherwise it's stock. I created a new account with administrative privileges. At this point, with just an account called Administrator, and an account called User, both with administrative privileges, it...

Did you copy the IBM Tools and DRIVER folder before you formatted? If not, you need to get the drivers and utilities at www.tpdrivers.com and look up T23. The hibernate and standby are part of the Power Management utilities. I went to the site and dl'd the power management file, incl the battery ma...

Used T23 with new WinXP Home has no STANDBY?
I picked up a T23 from eBay for under 500 and did a fresh install of WinXP Home, but now I notice that it doesn't have the Standby capability--did I screw up the Win install or is there some other likely explanation? Also, is there any way to get the IBM Thinkpad programs (setup, and help, and so on...

I would call the Toshiba MK8026GAX slow if I thought the difference between 203 and 199 was significant. I don't, so I won't. It depends. The 7200 RPM is the fastest of the bunch (those nine, anyway), but it's 7200, and it's a notebook, and it costs a little more. It will load programs the first ti...

T23's for 500 USD? That's like $600 CDN, a whole $200 less than the website I'm looking at. I would like to order my thinkpad from a website that will offer me atleast a few months warranty. Individuals on ebay don't rip you off that much? hrmmm. I will check that out. But won't the duties be a lot...

I seemed doomed to the dumb questions
but, i've got various laptop sticks of memory just sitting around, and i'm having a hard time figuring out which machine they can and can't go in. for example i just put a stick of 128 mb sync 100mhz cl2 that i'd taken out of my A21m into a T20. Seemed to work fine, but I wasn't sure I should trust ...

prices way too high
It's only my view, but the prices seem way too high. Look at IBM certified used machine on IBM site for less. And eBay routinely has good condition T23s at the $500 mark. You may have to ask a few questions, read the feedback carefully, see what the person is selling and has sold, but i think you ge...

Just curious, or, possibly, interested if this X22 has been sold and is long gone, or is it still out there, looking for a buyer?

no, this is a pure software problem. The trackpoint needs to be configured to zero-force default. Uninstall all drivers, use a newer BIOS and install the newest trackpoint tools. Then it goes away. I wanted this to be true so I downloaded latest Trackpoint drivers and installed at great risk (wrest...

I have a 3com modem combo, it is extremely easy to replace, just open the mini pci cover, remove the modem(disconect the cable and remove the card like a piece of memory) and insert the new card, and connect both of the cables that are in that bay. Search EBAY for "IBM mini pci" you can get one for...

I need to buy a 10/100 internal card for a used T20
Dumb Question.
This T20 (26472IU) came with a modem in slot. Can I just pull the modem and replace with a combo card? I have been shopping some at NewEgg and ZipZoomFly and can't seem to find a card, though there are plenty of used ones on eBay.
Thx.

I have exactly the same symptom as you described. When the problem happened, the cd drive/floppy gave a loud on-off cough sound just as you do. If the problem doesn't go away after a few seconds you need a new keyboard. Easy fix, and cheap on ebay. -kj- This is what I was guessing. For the present I have disabled the Trackpoint in the BIOS and am using a wired USB mouse. That seems to work OK, although when I tried Autodisable in BIOS, tha...

T20 with roving Trackpoint pointer
I bought this T20 on eBay, quite cheap, and it seems pretty clean so far except that the Trackpoint pointing stick is a lot out of control. Cursor runs up to top of screen and tries to stay there, even when you work the pointing stick down. I haven't tried the plug in mouse yet, but am assuming that...

Size of T23 30 G HD? Is there a hidden recovery partition?
I bought a T23 1.13GHz with a 30 G HD off eBay. Very pleased. I installed XP Pro as an upgrade over the Win 2000 that came with it, but I forgot, when I installed XP Pro, to check for a recovery partition. Now I'm wondering if I just left it on there and lost the space. Any clues? I could install Pa...

Another quick question between T20 800 and T23 1.13?
I've been shopping on eBay again and have located what appear to be a number of very good condition T23s at about the $525 mark and some T20s at the $400 mark. THey appear to be in very fine condition (seller is showing actual photos of actual items). Could someone more experienced (means almost any...

Not like new, but much less horrifying than it sounded
Thinker-- I completely sympathize with you. Anyone who called this "like new" intended to mislead you. That said, however, the dirt seems less pronounced than I'd imagined from reading the other thread, and it also seems sort of superficial, like a once-over with some canned air and a soft rag might...
