Re: W540 Ebay find
The i7-4940mx was added as an option once the W541 was on the market; I have a "1st gen" W540 and it came with the i7-4930mx - the original data sheet for the W540 maxed out with the 4930mx but was revised later to add the 4940mx. The price difference from the 4930 to the 4940 was of course crazy an...

Re: W540 LCD upgrade from TN FHD to FHD IPS - anyone done this?
I was able to get an AUO B156HAN01.2 as I'd hoped and successfully installed it in my W540 in about 6 minutes, gotta say that was the easiest panel swap I have *ever* done in my 4 decades of working with computers overall. Picture quality is quite nice, specs say it's 300 nits with a 700:1 contrast ...

Re: W540 LCD upgrade from TN FHD to FHD IPS - anyone done this?
Yah, it is truly odd why Lenovo would gimp not only the LCD options on the W540 but that darn trackpad as well so I suppose my work will be cut out for me as I attempt to track down a proper 1920x1080 matte IPS panel that could be a suitable swap. The chances of me discovering a proper 3840x2160 mat...

W540 LCD upgrade from TN FHD to FHD IPS - anyone done this?
Getting a maxed out ThinkPad W540 in a few days, it has everything maxed from the factory - the Intel i7-4930mx, 32GB of RAM (4x8GB), the 512GB SSD (I plan to upgrade that but still use it as a secondary), Nvidia Quadro K2100m, etc, even the Pantone Colorimeter in the palmrest. But for some strange ...

Re: T420s custom Bios
I was using the latest 1.45 direct from Lenovo but then I realized I couldn't make use of the Intel 6300 Wi-Fi card I've got. The 6205 is 2 antenna and since this T420s I have has 3 antennas well, I went looking and found a WL modded 1.43 and that's what I'm using now. The whole Meltdown/Spectre fia...

Well yeah, adding a SLIC table to a BIOS is one thing and even Lenovo wouldn't more than likely give a darn about that, but using Daz Loader, that's a whole different thing altogether.

Re: Anybody know which Slic.BIN file is used for which Laptop
If you have a Lenovo laptop (or even an older IBM manufactured one) and it's got a Windows license on it, I can't comprehend the point of using tools like Daz Loader which is obviously a tool to bypass/cheat/crack/hack the Windows activation technologies aka "warez" (and I'm surprised you'd mention ...

Re: Windoze7: Life after End of Life ???
You make it sound like the day the official support for Windows 7 stops the OS itself will just grind to a screeching halt, which of course is not the case. I myself will continue to use Windows 7 on my hardware - I just installed it on a Yoga 710 15" Kaby Lake the other day and 99.9% of the hardwar...

The one that I'm using since I got my T420s a few days ago is the 1.41 modified BIOS as noted here: https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-T420s-1-41-whitelist-removed-other-changes I know that the latest BIOS is 1.45 and it was released just after 1.44 because of the Meltdown/Spectre issues but the...

I posted basically the same info over at /r/thinkpad on Reddit for others as well so, the ISOs will stay there for however long I suppose, I don't use Mega all that much but hey, 50GB is 50GB I suppose. Hope the ISOs come in handy for people that might need them.

No problem, working on the uploads now so whenever you get the chance, check on this link: https://mega.nz/#F!TeZkjbjT!RyjfW031C8PPUNPJQMXzew It's a folder with the 3 ISOs, MD5 and SHA1 checksums, and a picture of each disc - I kept everything nice and clean, the filenames on the *.iso files are how...

So I had the W541 for like two weeks, I suppose, and while I loved it someone made me an offer on it that I just couldn't refuse so, as luck would have it the support request I made with Lenovo about the recovery media - because the W541 I had was still under warranty - was accepted they sent me the...

Re: Made Recovery Media from factory partition, DVDs will not boot :(
I guess my point is that I made the DVDs using Lenovo's own recovery media creation tool and they aren't even bootable so, one has to wonder what's the point in making them in the first place.

Re: Made Recovery Media from factory partition, DVDs will not boot :(
I have absolutely no idea what you're referring to, but if it's got anything to do with any of the factory-prepped recovery or system partitions on the SSD, those are long long gone now because of the Secure ATA Wipe that I've done (3 of them, actually, over the past 2 weeks or so). And now I'm even...

Made Recovery Media from factory partition, DVDs will not boot :(
So, this ThinkPad W541 I have, I made the 'factory restore' DVDs (3 of them) as most people tend to do and I decided to restore it using those 3 DVDs just to know the process for the future if needed and... The DVDs won't boot the laptop. They were created using the Lenovo tool that's part of the fa...

Re: Any tips on protecting battery usage when plugged in 99% of the time?
Thank you all for the info, and again considering this battery was manufactured on July 9 2015 and it's just a few months shy of being 3 years old, I'm happy to report it's still showing basically the full capacity even after the short period of time I've owned it. I've run it down to about 9% once,...

Microphone not muting as expected, wondering why
I have a ThinkPad W541 and running pretty much pure stock meaning just yesterday I did a pure clean installation of Windows 7 Pro x64 fully updated (simplix Update Pack ISO made from May 10th's update), and once the OS was installed the only thing I installed manually was the Intel Gigabit NIC drive...

Any tips on protecting battery usage when plugged in 99% of the time?
Just figured I'd ask this and be done with it. I recently got a ThinkPad W541 in near-mint condition, whoever bought it in Sept 2015 hardly used it: the SSD had only 227 hours of usage on it when I first tested it out with the buyer face-to-face and I knew I had found a great deal. No issues with it...

Re: ThinkPad W541 - essentially a W540 with the few differences?
So I got the W541, not a mark on it at all, practically mint condition really. Was curious about the battery of course and just checked: Power Manager shows it's got basically 99.9% capacity, and BatteryBar backs that up so, awesome there. It's still got 4+ months left on the warranty, everything is...

Re: ThinkPad W541 - essentially a W540 with the few differences?
One last thing: can anyone that might have owned or does own a relatively stock W541 tell me what the 256GB SSD inside it is? Standard 2.5" form factor I'm guessing because of the m.2 slot I might make use of later, but I wanted to know if anyone knows precisely what SSD it is, what brand, model num...

ThinkPad W541 - essentially a W540 with the few differences?
I have a chance to get a W541 tomorrow (i7-4810QM, 8GB but not sure if it's one stick or two, 250GB hard drive which is probably not the factory storage device and not really a concern, original 170 watt power adapter, etc, good condition overall) and was doing research into the model and learned it...

Re: Question regarding benchmark performance and the T25
Thanks for the input. Found an almost near (at least condition-wise) T430 in a pawn shop yesterday for $150 and then when I got home I found a T420 in fine condition (a refurb) for $80 on craigslist so, was a nice weekend but I'm still considering the T25 if I can pull together the funds before they...

Re: Question regarding benchmark performance and the T25
3D work tends to rely a great deal on memory bandwidth, so does video encoding to some degrees. Regardless, my point is that if I'm going to pay $2,000+ for a laptop (which it would be with the 6-cell battery, I'd get another 16GB SODIMM myself far cheaper than Lenovo would supply it) I want it to p...

Re: Question regarding benchmark performance and the T25
No, I suppose not but I know the T25 comes with that single 16GB SODIMM so that's single channel mode by default even if it is pretty fast with DDR4, I'm presuming if one gets a second 16GB module (or 8GB or whatever) it'll kick in some dual channel action and provide a somewhat relevant boost in ov...

Yeah, I know, sooner or later it had to happen. Anyway, as a loyal ThinkPad owner since that first model long ago and many many in-between then and now (disclaimer: I've been using Dell Latitudes almost exclusively for several years so I wanted that known) and now that the T25 is finally available (...

Re: My Switch To SSD - HDTach Results Inside
Not meaning to hijack the thread, but... I thought a T61 board (not a T61p) wouldn't fit in the T60 (not T60p) chassis because of internal differences...? I don't care about Nvidia graphics and I avoid them at all costs anyway, so the X3100 on the 965 chipset would be more than enough I suppose, but...

I'm looking for an older T410 - I don't want to start an argument, let's just say I prefer the older model because of the 16:10 aspect ratio screen and some other considerations (it's older hence it should be cheaper, etc) - and I'm curious to know what the best possible CPU I could upgrade to might...

Thanks for all the info. And yes I realize it's not "capacitive multitouch" like we have nowadays on tablets like the x220, etc. If I can manage to get even single finger touch working on an x61t that would be a cool thing I suppose. It's not an absolute requirement, just a "want" I suppose. :) Will...
