Thanks for the response GomJabbar... honestly, it's way too complicated for me to explain why I wanted to go back to RNR 3.0, but I guess it's best summed up as the forbidden fruit attraction... once I found out I couldn't restore backups from 3.0 with 3.1, I became hellbent on figuring out how to r...

RNR 3.1 nightmare... help.

I've installed RNR 3.1 and I desperately want to revert back to 3.01.0037 . The problem with 3.1 is that it either won't recognize or has deleted (I hope not) my former backups from my local drive. I also had these backups on an USB external HDD, but it won't recognize them either. I uninstalled 3.1...

I'm using Battery MaxiMiser v1.38 which I believe after searching IBM's site is the current version. But sure enough, I set the thresholds back to the default settings (96/100%) and it's charging up. Thanks a lot for the tip. It still seems odd to me though. The old thresholds worked for maybe a mon...

T42 battery not charging

I've had a T42 2379-R1U for about three months now, and recently the battery won't charge up to the charging threshold (I have it set at 94/98%). Right now it's at 77%, which it's been at all day. When I shut down, the battery continues to drain slowly (1% every day or two). So if it's set to charge...

If you head over to the pictures forum, someone posted pics of a TP they painted electric blue.

I believe the consensus was that it looks "awful," although a few people did like it. Whatever floats your boat I suppose.

no one uses typewriters anymore because a computer does it better and cheaper.. Ain't that the truth. I just recently dug up my parent's correcting Selectric II (still stored in its original box!), and it's about as old as I am. It hadn't been used in probably a decade, and once I set it up and fed...

Security strategies?

I've been thinking about getting a tracking program like computrace to help me recover my T42 should it get stolen. But in thinking about how those programs work, it made me wonder whether setting power-on and HD passwords would actually make it more difficult for those programs to actually do their...

Strange thing is, Prime95 may not show error at times, but when I run other applications at the same time, it wasn't so stable. So I increased the voltage a little bit more to create some buffer in the end. Interesting... what other programs were you running? The reason I ask is that while testing ...

How long are you folks testing for? Is two hours of Prime95 testing sufficient to consider the processor stable at a given speed and voltage?

Or put another way, have any of you run into failures more than two hours into testing?

Since it officially turned summer here this week, I'll start off with my favorite summer sandwhich, the tomato sandwhich. If they use 8 gig for the restore partition and it only needs 5 then can you re-partition to get back the extra space without screwing up the restore stuff? I think that's what jhonyl was talking about in his post. A 40 GB HD is gonna max out around 37 GB in reality. For example, my Aptiva desktop ...

I was a math major who used an Aptiva 2163-580 through all four years, and, similar to gcchatel, I never got into serious computing until my junior year; I think there's just a lot of general ed stuff to get out of the way before you start getting into the intense subject matter of the majors. Erm, don't you mean "freedom fries"? I always loved Wendy's fries, when they're fresh. I thought Bojangle's always had mediocre fries, but their cajun seasoning made them pretty tasty. Unfortunately, I've been unable to make myself eat fast food since I read Fast Food Nation last summer. :(

special characters in keyboard customizer

In IBM's keyboard customizer, is there a way to add/program special characters other than the default commerce and scientific characters they have? I want to have an easy way to access the long dash (Alt + 0151), and the added steps (shift/num lock) to use the numberpad seems cumbersome after gettin...

I think I'm spending too much time on here also, which is leading me to spending too much money on my new TP, which wasn't cheap in the first place. I'm torn now between the thinner Vyper and a thicker powersleeve or waterfield sleeve. I definitely lean towards the idea of more padding = more protec...
