I guess the artifacts are either a serious driver problem since you metntion the ati2dvag file, that beeing a driver indicates that could be ther problem. Yeah it does actually, since the readtimes r 21.9mb/s from the disk this would indicate that even though it uses UDMA mode 5 it's only marginally faster in direct search from the HDD than a Multiword since in general the 2mb cache doesn't do miracles I suppose the IDE flash disk would suffice...
