4-SALE: WATCH TV ON YOUR LCD MONITOR WITHOUT A PC!
I have for sale a couple of these in sealed boxes:
http://www.aver.com/products/tvtuner_AV ... tcha.shtml
I made a bulk purchase about a year or so ago and I have some left. I use them all over the house to convert my old LCD monitors to small TV's. Great for the bedroom or a bathroom. I don't believe any warranty is remaining but I've never had an issue with mine, nor have the dozens of college students I've sold them to. Very small tuner box with a credit card sized remote. Neat product! As you can see from the reviews section this company makes some quality products.
Price is $59 each delivered to a mainland US destination. Actual cost to other areas.
If you are in the US I'll take cash, non-CC PayPal, cashier's check from a major US bank, or a postal money order, but all others must pay via non-CC PayPal and have a Verified Address on that account for me to ship to. No exceptions.
E-MAILS ONLY! PLEASE DON'T PM ME HERE.

I'm a little confused about the input...composite? Is that the same as like a DVD player's composite input? Because I think the only connections my LCD monitor has is whatever connects to the VGA port, but it is a modern one, Viewsonic 19" widescreen.

Unfortunately, like some monitors this one can't be used directly without a multimedia computer, or video capture device, or DVD Recorder with a VGA output (standard analog monitor connection). The IBM doesn't have the input, but like ANY monitor it CAN be used if you have one of the forementioned devices. I know this defeats the purpose of a stand-alone TV but hey, you can still have a TV near you computer or other device. The input needed to use this as a stand-alone solution is a simple RCA jack labled "video in" or "composite video" or "AV input" on your monitor. Look on the back of most any VCR or DVD-R that sits above/below your TV and you will see what I mean.tom lightbody wrote:does this device work with IBM's L170 17" lcd monitor?
The tuner is really a neat little device. It's silver and about 3" x 5" x 3/4" thick. There is a slot on the top where the credit card sized remote can be stored. A removeable stand allows it to stand on it's side if that fits your space better. I've used one to bring life back to an older TV that could not handle the extended cable TV channels, those beyond channel 36 (and and old VCR that had the same problem). My brother uses one with a $39 DVD player and a pair of decent computer speakers as a music system for his office (when not using it as a TV tuner). I can think of several different uses for this, not just as a TV tuner for an LCD monitor with the needed input. I use one to feed the sound of TV channels through a Bose tabletop radio. I use another with a mini phono to RCA adapter to control the volume (via remote control) of a portable CD player without a remote. If I didn't have a few too many I'm sure I'd find a use for them too!

Hey, please stop needlessly scaring everybody! Yes, it's not an hdtv tuner (hdtv for $59 ???), or even digital, BUT the very soonest it will become "useless" (your term) as a TV tuner is February 19th, 2009. That's 21 months away, and if it saves someone hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars by not having to buy a new TV until AT LEAST that time it's a bargain. Furthermore, the deadline is likely to be extended again as the public is still not too happy about having to discard perfectly good electronics AND spend more each month to receive a TV picture the majority do not need (nor can they afford). Are we going to pass out "TV stamps" to the poor and those on fixed incomes who can't take the price shock? They've already propsed digital to analog boxes to be sold for $50 a pop so even THEN this tuner will not be "useless" (vouchers are to be given out to those who can't afford them).Tholek wrote:I don't see it mentioned here, and perhaps it should go without asking, but this is an analog tuner, yes?
I ask, because they will become useless in the USA come February.
The TV's are getting cheaper but in the areas I am aware of the programming is getting more costly. And don't for one minute think that as soon as the poor content distributors (cable & sat. providers) no longer have to handle analog or other less-than-hd signals that they will pass that cost savings on to us. It never happens.
