thinkpad trackpoint
thinkpad trackpoint
Hi guus
I have some questions regarding the trackpoint in the newest Thinkpad.
I thought at some point that there were 2 kind of trackpoint:
7row keyboard and "normal" 3 trackpoint caps.
6row chicklet keyboard and low profile trackpoint with only 1 cap.
it seems i am not totally correct, as T460s seems to have even lower profile than t460

Anyone can help me telling me what is where?
More sepcifically, what about
X1 carbon (2015 and 2016)
T450s
T460s
Thinkpad 13 (not yet out but soon (April). When exactly? in 2 days or in 1 month?).
Anyone has a not super low profile?
I tried a X1 carbon 2015 and it seemed to me the trackpoint is lower than on other models and thus harder to use. Any other difference?
Thanks for the clarification!

Re: thinkpad trackpoint
That's the result for unnecessary thinness hunt. ThinkPad 13 is already listed in PSREF http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/ThinkPad_13 It usually takes three months to be available over here but in France I would expect it sooner.

Re: thinkpad trackpoint
How does the *30 series (T430/T530/..etc) fit in that mix ?
does it have trackpoint like the older *20 series, or something else ?

According to
http://www.vuugo.com/computers/laptops- ... p2698.html
it seems that the XX30 still have the old style.
Not sure about t430s/431u though.

Re: thinkpad trackpoint
I have switched classic and soft dome caps between my W530 and older thinkpads. They all seem to be equal in height, so xx30 machines probably use the same trackpoint implementation. T431 and newer models use different keyboards so I am not sure about those.
The X1 carbon keyboard has the shallowest depth of 1.8mm (vs 2.5mm on the classic). Thus, these models would most likely have shorter trackpoints.

Re: thinkpad trackpoint
All models up to the Tx30 series have the old TrackPoint caps. Newer models have caps with slightly reduced height (Low Profile caps).
Seems like the T460s introduces another, even thinner kind to further reduce thickness. Also, there is the X1 Tablet coming out with the thinnest TrackPoint cap ever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aym0pv-lqpA
My P50 has a Low Profile cap, the same kind as T460.

Re: thinkpad trackpoint
Not sure about the Carbon, but I guess the current one will have the same cap as the T460s for sure.
T460s is basically as thin as the first X1 Carbon, so older carbon may have the slimmer cap as well. But as I mentioned, not sure. I don´t come across Carbons that often, most people who buy ThinkPads seem to buy T/X here in Germany, the X1 Carbon is rare beast compared to these.
