thinkpad yoga with WWAN

#1 Post by Whitieiii » Mon Dec 24, 2018 9:19 pm

I'm wanting to know if there is any Thinkpad Yoga's with WWAN cards or support WWAN cards? I'm upgrading mum's computer soon and want to get her something that can both replace her old computer and tablet... good windows tablets with i5 or i7 CPUs with 4G LTE modems are not cheap enough at this point in time.. looking at maybe a 12" yoga... what's out there? I don't really know the yoga line very well

Start here https://psref.lenovo.com/ but I don't think there is any cheap (Atom/Celeron/Pentium) 12" that supports it.

The problem with WWAN is that Intel based tablets need additional chip to support it while ARM based ones have already built-in support and that's why it is cheaper. Unfortunately the selection of Windows 10 on ARM tablets/convertibles is still poor due to Microsoft unconcern of this device category in general.

I've seen some USB-based WWAN adapters (with a SIM slot on the USB as well, naturally) out here (it's a standout of some of the most intense workers of the already intense working culture when you see it on the Metro here), but I doubt for that particular line there would be any with built-in WWAN adapter chip. On a Windows computer and sometimes on mainstream Linux OS, it would be easy to install drivers for most of these, and it would be the equivalent of those WiFi-USB adapters. The biggest limitation would be the USB Bus speed in this case.

I'm looking at getting a thinkpad Yoga (2 in 1) with WWAN.. I know the Thinkpad x1 tablet is the perfect device but it's too expensive at this time so I'm looking for a cheaper device... I might want a Thinkpad Yoga with X260s specs is what I might be looking for
