Specify options when phone-ordering from Lenovo US?

Following up on some suggestions here and the Lenovo forum, I called Lenovo's order line, got a rep on the phone, and asked if I could order a ThinkCentre desktop with options that aren't available on the website configurator, but which the HMM makes clear are possible on the machine model. For example, installing an M.2 SSD on purchase (this is available on the site if you order the M80t ES Certified Tower, but not if you simply order the M80t), or the parallel and PS/2 ports.

The rep I spoke to was a bit slow, and basically said that he couldn't place an order for anything that isn't also available on the web site. Does this sound right to anyone here? And if it's wrong, and in fact a telephone order can include special options, could you recommend a sales representative who might be able to handle this kind of thing?

Many thanks for any advice. I'm trying to avoid the trouble and (minor) rrisks involved in opening up a box and installing options, but will take the trouble if needed.
