Thinkpad refurbs

Hoping to buy a refurbished thinkpad from IBM soon. They have two qualities: blemished and used.

The used comes with new keyboard and case where the blemished is the original case.

I need to decide what would be best and most durable. The used sounds good but it makes me wonder if the machine was so abused as to need that kind of rebuilding and maybe not a good buy.

Anyone have any info on IBM refurbs, or advice
