Radeon drivers install issue / where to find R40 recovery discs

#1 Post by tottoroo » Sat Feb 04, 2023 10:33 pm

I'm having a hard time installing the Radeon drivers for an R40 on XP, this is the error I get:

I tried a few things, and posted in the R series section but I haven't got an answer yet (ETA: I just removed my post because it was probably in the wrong section).

I saw there was a thread where one can request the original recovery discs for most models, but I can't seem to find it anymore :??: . Do you happen to know where I could make a request for the ISOs, or where I could find them online? Thank you.

ISOs in TPF Marketplace: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=128170
Did you also check in the (R40) Drivers link above?
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!

Thank You very much! I just sent a PM to ask for the recovery media. Also removed my other post, regarding a software issue, which I posted in the hardware section.

Yes I got the drivers from the link above. I wasted a couple evenings on the issue, drove me insane as neither changing the OS nor the motherboard(!) solved it for me. Let's hope I can fix it through the recovery.

What is the exact name of the file you are unpacking? And what is your GPU model (Mobility 7000 or 7500)?

I think I know what's the problem... The file you need to use is 1rd637ww.exe. By mistake, on the Lenovo EOL's support page for R40 they list an ATI GPU driver for other models (T60, R60 etc), which obviously will not work.

Interesting! I'll try right away with the one you mention (1rd637ww.exe or 8.133.2.1.1.1-070206a from 2007). I tried the 2009's one (79d179ww.exe or 8.593.100.7-090929a) listed as the most recent XP official driver. From here: https://thinkpads.com/support/Thinkpad- ... m/R40.html

Holy moly you may right, the one I used lists T60/R60 as the compatible hardware... brb.

I'm glad it worked! Haha, yeah, that's so frustrating, I've taken apart my laptops a few dozen times, and I hated each and every one of them.
