Hi,
Recently I've run into this bug (https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56581), with the Centrino Wireless-N 1000 [Condor Peak] in my X220. This is the first time I've had issues with Intel wifi... I had been planning to upgrade to a whitelisted 6205, but now I'm wondering if I would be better of jumping ship, flashing a hacked BIOS, and moving to something with an Atheros or Broadcom chipset. It needs to be 802.11N, MIMO 2x2, rock-solid, fast, support advanced power saving methods...and I need for the wlan LED to blink when in use. 5Ghz would be a huge plus, but its absence is not a deal-breaker.
Take a look at our

Past Thinkpads: T23, X32
Emotionally invested in an old X60s, even though I should probably sell it
Biggest disappointment was a X131e...that keyboard

Should work without BIOS-mod:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-Thinkpad ... 0769621130
http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-Lenovo-Thin ... 0634854924
There is also this Realtek card, but don't know its capacities:

A lot of cards other than Intel do NOT have the LED working.

Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!

Re: Recommended minipcie wlan upgrade (Linux)
Steer clear of Realtek cards, i've had to replace 2 as theyre flaky with many distros.

Re: Recommended minipcie wlan upgrade (Linux)
If you plan on using the 5Ghz spectrum and want to stick with Intel, get an Intel 7260AN or 7260AC. The 5Ghz performance of earlier Intel cards from the 5000 and 6000 series was poor compared to the Intel 7260 and any Atheros chipset.
Four 15" T61 Frankenpads collecting dust and one X62 that sees no use, but X201 and X230 in service.
