Thermal paste and fan replacement

#1 Post by karotlopj » Thu Jul 06, 2023 9:44 am

I'm in the process of replacing a fan in an X61, and had not considered the need to use some new thermal paste.

How do I tell whether I need to?

Whenever you take the fan off, you need to replace its thermal paste.

Thanks.

How do I know which thermal paste to buy?

Do I look for brand/type? I know nothing about thermal paste.

And this subject has been discussed probably a few hundred times on this forum...

Any known thermal paste brand should work. I use Arctic or Cooler Master.
