Please help me to choose between T14 and T14s (Gen 4 AMD)

#1 Post by Inferno » Sat Oct 21, 2023 6:22 pm

I'd like to buy a Ryzen 7 PRO 7840U T14 or T14s model.

Is it true that T14 is noisier?

Does T14 have better thermal efficiency under heavy loads because it's a sibling of a mobile workstation P14 model?

I need an Ethernet port and T14s lacks the port. Does an Ethernet extension adapter (USB-C) work well with all networks?

Thanks in advance for answering my questions.

Dongles work but they are a hassle. I'd prefer a physical Ethernet port. The downside is that, if you use it often, it'll wear eventually and you'll have to replace the entire motherboard. Get good warranty in that case.

The regular T14 usually has a batter cooling system. It'll probably be quieter most of the time because of it. And have a higher performance ceiling.

The T14s is usually sightly better built. I'll probably last longer on battery, since it's usually non-upgradable, meaning it uses soldered LP RAM.

I'm not knowledgeable enough about the last models. I'm talking mostly from experience with older generations.
