Thinkpad T30 hotkeys...
Thinkpad T30 hotkeys...
Hello all,
Just the other day i was cleaning up my laptop after replacing the burnt out lcd for my number lock key. After which I decided to clean up my laptop and clear out some of the applications starting up. To say the least I do not remember which applications they were but most were not needed.
During the process I accidently removed the trackpoint software, which I resolved, by downloading an updated version of the software. However, I am unable to locate the software required to operate the ThinkPad button, and the sound volume controls.

Edited: 2 words, which may have caused a bit of confustion. "Which I downloaded" to "by downloading".

Normally if you download a driver or software from IBM, IBM's Download Director will save the file to the C:\DownloadDirector directory with a cryptic name such as 1xua08ww.exe. You need to look at the name of the file before you download it, so that you know what name it is on your hard drive. You can also search the C:\DownloadDirector directory for keywords such as trackpoint using Windows Search, and you can find the file that way (for this to work, you need to download the readme text file along with the executable driver file).
After you find the file to execute, double-click on it and follow the prompts. Pay attention to what directory the files are saved in. It is usually a subdirectory in C:\DRIVERS\WIN\. Find the Setup.exe file in the appropriate subdirectory and double click on it to install. Alternatively, an easier way is to run ThinkVantage Software Installer after you double-clicked the file in the DownloadDirector directory.

Well, I'm not sure what software update application you are using, but IBM has always saved it's files in either the Drivers, and IMBTOOLS directory. Personally, I delete these directories after everything is installed as they are not needed once installed and a waste of space.
Still, I am not sure what you're getting at. I was asking if anyone knew what application / software is required to run these hotkeys.

I misunderstood your question. I thought you were looking for software that you already downloaded.
Software and Device Drivers - ThinkPad T30
From the above site you can get all the drivers and software available from IBM/Lenovo for you T30. You say you are looking for the software for the 'ThinkPad button', which I take to mean the TrackPoint. You will see drivers for the TrackPoint on this page. If you'll notice at the top of the page it says:

This is the ThinkVantage Software Installer I was referring to. If you install that, with it you can connect to IBM/Lenovo's site and it will show you all software and driver updates available for your T30. You can choose which to install or update.Update your files automatically!
Our new automatic installation tool will determine what files you need and install them automatically!

Yes, the software has already been downloaded, installed, but as I mentioned I remove these installers. These hotkeys were working prior to deleteing a setting from the startup process, the software was not removed, just the startup string. The hotkeys rely upon a driver(s) to activate at startup.
The software installer only works if IBMTOOLS and DRIVERS directory are present, it will not return any information if you delete the directories and the software will sit and hang.
What I need to know is what software / driver is needed to run these hotkeys so that I can replace it within the startup process.

The start up process on my T41 is:
C:\Program Files\Lenovo\PkgMgr\HOTKEY\TOHKMGR.EXE
If all you did was remove the registry entry, then you can replace it, but remember that mucking with the registry can be dangerous.
Try downloading the package, then uninstalling the Hotkey manager with Add/Remove programs or Software Installer, and then re-installing it.

Bingo...
I had looked through the IBM program directory but did not find it there. After you posted, I finally found a ThinkPad directory where it was installed; c:\Program Files\ThinkPad\PkgMgr\HOTKEY\TOHKMGR.EXE, talk about inconsistancy.
GomJabbar, It's much easier than sifting through all the documentation on IBM's site. Downloading and installing over the old software and possibly causing more problems.
Thanks
