My T30 had been taking about thirty seconds to shut down, hanging at the "Saving your settings" message. Installing UPHClean reduced shutdown to about five seconds, which is nice, but I'm trying to understand why.

UPHClean identifies the troublesome process as "svchost.exe (968)," which Tasklist /svc shows to be "svchost.exe 968 DcomLaunch, TermService." I have Terminal Services set to Manual, but it's always started. According to its description, Terminal Services is necessary for Fast User Switching, among other things, which seems ironic.

Once started, Terminal Services cannot be stopped. I tried disabling it and going through a startup/shutdown cycle, and UPHClean no longer reported a problem.

Does anyone know what's causing this?
