Hi.
As the subject indicates, I am looking to upgrade my new laptop to 2Gb ram. It now has 2 x 512mb ram, which is of the type PC5300 ddr2 ram.
I'm thinking about selling both modules off, and buying 2x1gb ram.
Will i be able to sell those 2 ram modules? (they are worth twice the value as apposed to other brands than IBM)
Why are ibm/lenovo ram worth twice the value opposed to "ordinary ram"? (performance?)
If i sold the 2 modules off, and bought 2x1gb modules from Kingston, (which has support for ibm laptops), would i then break warranty, and not be eligeble for suppert? (sorry for my bad english, its not my native lang.)
Would it be better to sell 2x512, and buy 2x1gb original lenovo ram? It would cost a lot.
Take a look at our

Re: Upgrading ram in my z61m
There is no performance advantage. It's just that the name "IBM" is sacred to some people.LasseFJ wrote:Why are ibm/lenovo ram worth twice the value opposed to "ordinary ram"? (performance?)
Nope, Lenovo lets you upgrade the RAM and the hard drive on your own.LasseFJ wrote:If i sold the 2 modules off, and bought 2x1gb modules from Kingston, (which has support for ibm laptops), would i then break warranty, and not be eligeble for suppert?
Just get a non-IBM-but-good brand and save some money. Kingston is a good choice.LasseFJ wrote:Would it be better to sell 2x512, and buy 2x1gb original lenovo ram? It would cost a lot.
