RAM for T42
I recently purchased a T42 w/256MB RAM. Can I place a 512 in the 2nd slot? Do I have to use two 256 or two 512? Is it wise to stick to one brand of chips. How can I tell who is the OEM on my 256 RAM, I opened the panel but unable to locate this info. I appreciate your help w/ this matter. Thanks...

It's exactly what I did. I went with IBM, but you can go with any brand.Thinkpad315 wrote:I recently purchased a T42 w/256MB RAM. Can I place a 512 in the 2nd slot?

gattler,
Thanks for the info. Regarding 'timing-ns', i assumed u are talking about the latency? The ram on my T42 is hard to get to, I remove the small back panel, however, unable to locate the RAM. Any clue as to removing this sucker. Anyway to find out w/o removing it, maybe thru IGM access or is this info. located somewhere on my HDD. Thanks..

To check the installed memory physically, u have to remove keyboard.
As per T42 detailed specs on IBM website, the memory came with machine should be PC2700, but when you check by opening Access IBM, the despription is PC2100. I called IBM for this issue. I was asked to remove keyboard by myself to check the memory chip physically. I did as instructed. It IS a PC2700 one. Manufacturer is Samsung.
I ordered a Samsung PC 2700 512mb over www.memorysuppliers.com for $65.
