but,
i've got various laptop sticks of memory just sitting around, and i'm having a hard time figuring out which machine they can and can't go in.
for example i just put a stick of 128 mb sync 100mhz cl2 that i'd taken out of my A21m into a T20. Seemed to work fine, but I wasn't sure I should trust it.
I also found an old 256MB stick of Crucial sycn, 100MHz, CL2 that i put in, and it worked, too. I'm sure it didn't come out of a T20--is there some way to look these up with part numbers or FRU numbers or something?
THanks,

Empirically speaking, if the ram is now working in the machine, it is probably okay, however I would run some tests on non-important work/data to see if things go wrong.
Yes, you can look up the FRUs and cross check things, unfortunately I do not have any links to the manuals and such offhand. You will have to sleuth some for that, or perhaps others will chime in with those links.
Some prefer IBM branded only, while others do not care RAM-wise. Technically the RAM must match the clock speed, ECC level, Synch type, and size constraints that may exist on that machine. And I could be missing something here, but still figure, if it is running, work it out and see how it goes. Just make sure you don't work it out with important data like wedding pics, childrens pics, certain music tracks and the like, <sarcasm>of course anything from your office should be tested here.</sarcasm>
