In the T4x forum, Gendou asked about the feasibility of gaming with a FireGL V5200...
I too have a T60p coming, and will not be using it for its intended purpose of AutoCAD. I would, however, like to pop a game in there once in a while. Nothing too 3D-intensve, no first-person shooters, but I am a little concerned about compatability.
1. Since the FireGL V5200 is based on the Radeon X1600, can I install X1600 drivers on my system?
2. Are there Omega drivers available that will work with the V5200? If so, which ones?
3. How will doing either of the above affect performance?
4. Should I just wait until I have a compatability issue before I go installing new drivers on my computer?

Using Radeon or Omega drivers with FireGL V5200?
Re: Using Radeon or Omega drivers with FireGL V5200?
1. Has been done with previous FireGL cards, see no reason as to why it wouldn't work with this one.
2. Same as above. The newest ones should work.
3. By default, FireGL drivers are tweaked for stability and performance in 3D apps, while Radeon drivers are tweaked for gaming performance. Omega drivers are even more tweaked for gaming performance, and latest versions claim to include specific FireGL tweaks that also fix compatibility problems.
4. Yes, or until you play a game that feels as significantly slower than what you'd expect from an X1600.
