T60P + eGPU connection (configuration)

#1 Post by aothunterpl » Thu Oct 06, 2022 1:52 pm

Hello, I have a question about the eGPU

EXP GDC v8.5 + Ekspress Card witch cable to transmit signals (HDMI conector)

Have any of you used an external eGPU riser for the T60, T60p

I have bought a used one but it is probably damaged - I will want to take care of it, in necesery im able to fix it.

But before I say that, I would have to know the correct sequence of connecting it to the T60 to be sure (do you need some modded bios etc.)

Could someone provide the settings and configurations that are needed to run the device (but without an external monitor)

in my opinion:

- in bios, set only the graphics source to external PCI

And that's it when it should turn on when logging

Thanks in advance for your help, best regards!

I'm not sure what you're asking and don't use an eGPU, but if you want to test the expresscard adapter, without a graphics card, by setting the BIOS to display its output on the PCIe graphics only, than that's most likely wrong.
In that case the BIOS will try to initialize a graphics card on the PCIe bus, fail to do so and may hang as a result. Then it will be difficult to reset it since you won't be able to see what you're doing the next time you switch it on. Instead run linux with the adapter inserted and check the log using dmesg. If it doesn't show up, run lspci or dmidecode. If that doesn't work you can try setting the BIOS to display on both the internal and PCIe graphics, insert a graphics card in the adapter then check the logs as before.

There is no modified BIOS for this purpose; members have had difficulty with using certain graphics cards in the 2503 advanced docking station, which is basically the same thing as using an eGPU. Some cards they could only get to work using 2 GB of RAM maximum, for instance. In that case a modified BIOS may have helped.
