Laptops and cold tempratures
Laptops and cold tempratures
I have to leave my laptop in the car for several hours at a time .The temprature drops to -25 celcius sometimes . Will the cold weather damage the LCD ?I am not planning on using it in that temprature .How long do I wait before using it after it has been in that cold temprature .

I have seen an LCD that was damaged from leaving it in a car overnight, but that was a while back. I don't remember what model TP it was any more.

Lenovo/IBM should have specifications on the lowest safe storage temperatures. I wouldn't take any chances. IBM says and I quote "Do not store your computer where the temperature is below 5° C or above 35° C (41° F and 95° F)." http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... WIK-3X4GSR

LCD's and HD's are not forgiving at lower temps. If you want to use a laptop that low, buy an extreme Panasonic Toughbook that includes warmers for both lcd and hd when under certain temps. Even then it still might get damaged if you leave it off in the cold climate for too long.
I have a few old calculators and other LCD equipped devices that have bled out when exposed to overnight stays in car in the cold WI winters.
