Upgrading the HardDIsk of X60... need suggestions.. !
Hello all,
My X60 came with 60gb 5400 rpm disk. I was planning to buy a 100gb 7200rpm disk, use it in my laptop, and move the internal disk to Ultrabase for backups and additional storage....
I dont really have to get the disk from Lenovo ? i can get drive from any vendor ? as i think the disk is the standard size.
Any recommendations.. has anyone upgraded there X60 ?
cheers

I upgraded mines to a Hitachi 7K100 100GB, very slight vibration when I place it on a desk. This is after I turned on AAM using Hitachi's downlaoded CD. Nothing that would annoy ppl at a very quite meeting. I say slight vibration because it's there , I can feel it. BTW battery life didn't go down much (maybe 30mins) from my Toshiba 100gb 5400rpm drive. Now how are you going to use CDs without grabbing an external? You could mount images but that means rippping it on another computer.

Why would you want to activate AAM and so lose what is the bigger advantage of 7K over a 5K? I don't see the point , really except if you did activate AAM also on the 5K of course.javellan wrote:I upgraded mines to a Hitachi 7K100 100GB, very slight vibration when I place it on a desk. I ordered from Sparco.com $185.63 plus shipping. They were good to me. I didn't use the HD in the ultrabay I used it for replacing my Toshiba 100gb 5400 that came with mine. I don't know if or where that adapter can be found outside IBM.Thakur wrote:Could you please tell me , how much you paid to get the 7K100 100gb... in us$ pleasejavellan wrote:I upgraded mines to a Hitachi 7K100 100GB, very slight vibration when I place it on a desk. -Joaquini need to get one as soon as i can... and also need the adapter in the Ultrabay to move the internal drive there for backups
did you order the Hitachi online ?
cheers !
Actually, I did speed tests using HDTach and there was only MINIMAL loss of performance when I enabled AAM. Pefect hard drive although it isns't as quite as the Toshiba it came with.thibouille27 wrote:Why would you want to activate AAM and so lose what is the bigger advantage of 7K over a 5K?
