I just received my X60s with built-in Verizon WWAN yesterday and would like to share my experience and pains with the Access Connections (AC) software. I had two major issues that have been resolved by uninstalling the AC software and soley relying on the native XP network configurations.
1) If you setup your wireless network connection through XP using network connections and don't setup anything using AC, the wireless radios will turn themselves off after a few minutes despite the fact that you are connected to a wireless network. The workaround for this was to setup a profile through AC and let that manage the wireless connection. After doing this, all my icons disappeared from the XP network connections only showing the verizon dialup. Uninstalling AC didn't help either. After googling, there are some services you could check, re-registering of dlls, and some registry edits to try get back your icons (note without the icons it is impossible to setup a network connection through XP directly), but I opted to do a restore to factory and start over again. This time uninstalling AC right away after setting up my wireless network through XP network connections.
2) VZAccess software doesn't play well with AC. The problem arises when both pieces of software tries to manage the WWAN device. If you don't open up AC status for WWAN, then VZAccess works fine. As soon as you open up AC status for WWAN, then try to open VZAccess, it just hangs. My solution as you could guess by now was to uninstall Access Connections.
I hope this saves someone some time and frustration. Other than that it's a stellar machine.
