Battery Gauge(s)

#1 Post by mikealevy » Sun Oct 15, 2006 4:37 pm

When operating my X60s on battery power, I have 2 gauges in my SYSTRAY: (1) Green Battery Icon, and (2) Blue (smaller) battery icon. They both indicate a DIFFERENT amount of time remaining.

For example, it currently shows:
(1) Green icon: 4:42 and 93%
(2) Blue icon: 5:10 and 93%

Any ideas why the discrepancy?

They use different extrapolation algorithms to calculate the battery life; in general, the green gauge is more "pessimistic" about the battery life as opposed to the default blue battery gauge that is primarily controlled by Windows. In addition, it could be that the power manager knows something more about the projected power consumption of the Thinkpad over a longer time interval than the Windows generic power manager does. It helps to perform a scheduled reset every now and then.

It isn't really anything to worry about much at all. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
