Dual monitors off X60 in rep or dock?
Dual monitors off X60 in rep or dock?
Has anyone gotten this to work.
Dual monitors off of the dock, mini-dock, or replicator with an x60?
If so, what were your machine specs?

Basically you cannot get two external monitors, unless you buy one of the few CardBus-based video cards on the market to supplement the built-in external video.
If all you want is built-in LCD with one external monitor, that's no trouble at all.

What about two external monitors connected to a dual-head PCI card in the dock? Would that work?tomh009 wrote:Basically you cannot get two external monitors, unless you buy one of the few CardBus-based video cards on the market to supplement the built-in external video.
X220/IPS, T60p/IPS

The X60(s) "dock" (really the ultrabase) doesn't support a PCI-E card. Only the T-series Advanced Dock supports a PCI-E card.qviri wrote:What about two external monitors connected to a dual-head PCI card in the dock? Would that work?
You could try one of the Maxtrox DualHead2Go products if the X60(s) graphics card can support high-resolution outputs. It basically takes a large resolution output and splits it between two displays. Look here --> http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/gxm/

Ah, right, I forgot that there's no full-blown dock compatible with the X60 series. Sorry.
Good idea with the Matrox box. The Matrox website does not explicitly state compability with either X60 directly or the GMA950 used for graphics. However, the X31 and the X40 series are declared as compatible. Using their Compability Tool is probably a good idea.

Note that while dualhead2go gives you two external monitors, they will not be two independent monitors -- your desktop will be extended across the two.
Also, the GMA 950 graphics has a max resolution of 2048x1536, so while I'm pretty confident that you could do 2x1024x768 (two 15" panels) I'm less confident that you can do 2x1280x1024 (two 19" panels). 2x1600x1200 is definitely out of the question.

Yes. But since DualHead2Go only supports two panels, all you can do is 2x1024x768, resulting in an effective 2048x768 display.smvp6459 wrote:Wouldn't 2048x1536 mean four 15" panels? I would think 2048x768 or 1024x1536 would result from two panels.tomh009 wrote:Also, the GMA 950 graphics has a max resolution of 2048x1536, so while I'm pretty confident that you could do 2x1024x768 (two 15" panels)
