Installed 200GB drive + paint job pics
Installed 200GB drive + paint job pics
So...I installed the 200GB drive from Toshiba the other day.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... tegory=380
Had a hell of a time getting the drive to clone properly from the 100gb drive that was in there previously. It was made easier by the fact that the SATA interface on both notebook and desktop drives are the same. Once I decide to give up on cloning the service partition, I got XP to boot properly, and that was that.
The drive is very quiet and the extra storage is great...quite happy with it. 4200 RPM is not a problem for me.
So, 2GB of RAM, Core Duo 1.83, integrated WWAN, incredible 8 hours of battery life and 200GB of storage in a 3.4 lb package. Pretty happy with it!
Also, I promised to post pictures of the paint job I got for my X60 a while ago on another thread but never did. Unfortunately, I don't have a digital camera and I never got around to borrowing one so I'm just going to repost the pictures I got from the painter.

The notebook does, in fact, look better than the pictures...it's painted with jet black automotive paint and clearcoat. It's quite durable and glossy.

I'm personally waiting for the 300GB drives to come out. I like to be able to carry around all my movies and everything with me, which take up a ton of space (Even right now, on my 100GB, my "videos" folder is about 50GB, but I have to restrict what I take with me because of my small hard drive). I also wouldn't mind seeing a 300GB in 5400RPM/
As for the paint job, it looks good. What is with that Google logo though?
Last I tried to paint a laptop, I failed miserably. I mean miserably. Fortunately that was only an HP, but it was so bad that I had to part it out.

Me too, because when that happens the 200GB drives will become very cheap.RUSH2112 wrote:I'm personally waiting for the 300GB drives to come out.

Rush, just showing a little company spirit! =)
I thought about waiting, but the price for the drive is actually pretty competitive per MB with other notebook drive capacities. Given the length of time it took for the 200GB drive to actually get released vs when it was supposed to come out...well, I'm betting the 300GB drives won't be out for a while. Fujitsu still doesn't even have a proper 200GB 9.5mm drive out right now.

What cloning software did you use?rkuo wrote:Had a hell of a time getting the drive to clone properly from the 100gb drive that was in there previously.

Acronis
Cloning the second drive via USB is GOOD with Acronis, I did that with my T41, but got no luck at all when I tried to back up drve image and doing full restore that image to new drive....fbrdphreak wrote:Nice system! Love the specs and the paint job!
As for cloning software, give Acronic TrueImage a whirl. It has zero issues resizing or cloning partitions, I've used it quite a lot for that purpose.
Please advice
Thanks, LD
