X220 with a centrino ultimate n6300 wifi card with issues

#1 Post by Onerous » Sun May 04, 2025 9:34 am

Hello

Have a x220 i7 running win11 and Im having issues with the wifi card, centrino ultimate n6300 that is running the 15 software version. Having read here https://woodygems.wordpress.com/tag/int ... te-n-6300/ that I need the 17 version of the software for 64bit and how to install the file as windows keeps defaulting to the 15 version.

Does anyone have the 64 bit version of the intel software as I noted that the softpedia download is the 32bit system. So won't install on win11.

Thank you for the help.

X220 is not even on the EOL page.

Driver 18.x is available here:

Thank you for your help,

Now how to get win11 to accept the driver as win11 thinks version 15 is the best.

Pay attention that it although the driver package is 18.x,
the driver versions (as show up in the device manager) are still 15.x:

Maybe the one you have is the newest, so Windows prefers it.
However, you can still force it to install the older one.

Youre kind of screwed because Win 11 and X220 aren’t even supposed to be compatible.

Microsoft's Official Stance can be read here:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/win ... 0a331518f1
Windows 11 on devices that don't meet minimum system requirements

Installing Windows 11 on a device that doesn't meet Windows 11 minimum system requirements isn't recommended. If Windows 11 is installed on ineligible hardware, your device won't receive support from Microsoft, and you should be comfortable assuming the risk of running into compatibility issues.

Devices that don't meet these system requirements might malfunction due to compatibility or other issues. Additionally, these devices aren't guaranteed to receive updates, including but not limited to security updates.
If you installed Windows 11 on a device not meeting Windows 11 system requirements, Microsoft recommends you roll back to Windows 10 immediately.
As for the automatic driver updates, try this:
