My hard drive died in my R40 laptop IBM sent 5 CDs for R40
My hard drive died in my R40 laptop it was out of warranty . I called IBM sent about $50 for the 5
CD (for the R40)with XP Pro and all Drivers and IBM Programs to make my R40
like new then I added all my programs Like Office and Photoshop
I had the IBM CDs in my hands in 3 Days the hard drive in 4 days
And I did not by the new hard drive from IBM they were $300 t0 $700 . I
order NEW 60gig drive from Tigerdirect for $65 .
You can add or not add the Hidden Partition if you like. I Did add it and
still have the CD if the Hard drive dies .
in lest then 2 hour had new hard drive in and all Programs up and running.

The hardest part was to hit the first key :-)
It was part of setup, it may have been a check box to do it or not. It asks to name the PC and who is going to use it. (Just housekeeping info)
All I did from them on was to change the 5 CDs and restart when ask to.
The ThinkPad needed to restart to install Drivers & setup the first time.
The 5 CDs were for R40 ThinkPad only I think IBM did a good job on making the CDs plug and play.
