What does the heatsink in a R60 with a ATI x1400 looks like?

R30/R40, A30/A31, G40/G50 and Z60/Z61 Series. NOT for AMD-Ryzen.

What does the heatsink in a R60 with a ATI x1400 looks like?

#1 Post by Fabricus » Sat Sep 06, 2025 1:00 pm

Hello! This is my first post in this community since I got myself a Thinkpad R60 in pristine condition! I have acquired all upgrades for it, the T7600 (from an old equipment i had), SSD and some ram. (Don’t worry, i don’t expect to use it with windows 10 lol just some retro gaming). Recently, I came by a motherboard with the raedon x1400 (mine comes with the intel 950) and my question is, can I swap the motherboard? And if so, does the heatsink differs, is there something else to consider? I would greatly appreciate if someone could upload a picture of what it looks like if they have this setup.

Thank you very much beforehand! And excuse any grammar mistakes as english is not my primary language.

you would need the ATI heatsink.

From the R60 HMM at p. 201: https://thinkpads.com/support/hmm/hmm_p ... 749_02.pdf

Thermal device and fan ATI
Toshiba 41W5269
CCI 41W5270
Furukawa 41W5271

You can google image search or ebay search or similar for the FRU numbers (eg. 41W5269) to pull up photos and listings.

i would expect the ATI GPU to provide actually quite better 3D graphics support for classic games or 3D software. but some really older games (older than y2k) the GMA 950 is good enough. happy modding.

Thank you very much! This is exactly what I was looking for. Now I will try to acquire one of these heatsinks, once I do so and everything is in order, I will share how it look like to the community :)

Best regards

Go for the W500 heatsink, the ATI GPUs run very hot (65-70 celsius). With the W500 Heatsink mine idles at 60-61c without undervolt. (I have a 14" T60p with FireGL V5250)

R60 has a different case than T60, a W500 heatsink wont fit. :(
