I would suppose you have to change the location of the folder holding the files that you have transferred/are transferring...
These settings are usually under "Options" or "Preferences" - if you dig about looking for those you should find something. Sorry, I don't use AIM so I can't help more.

What you are seeing is the (for many versions now) Windows stores the person's documents under My Documents under the user ID that the person logged on under. So there could be on this one computer:
C:\Documents and Settings\Jane Smith\My Documents\ (or Desktop)
C:\Documents and Settings\Fred Smith\My Documents\ (or Desktop)
C:\Documents and Settings\Susie Smith\My Documents\ (or Desktop)
and so on. The key point is that each user has his or her own My Documents and Desktop.
You cannot change the folder name because that *is* the user name. This also means it is not an AIM issue - it could happen in any dialog where the path is store with the filename.
You have three options:
1. Change the location of your documents, e.g., store them in C:\MSOffice or some such and then change your applications to point there. Think about permissions if more than one person uses this PC.
2. Make a folder called C:\AIM and when you need to transfer a file via AIM, copy the file from C:\Documents and Settings\... to C:\AIM. This method could be problematic if you are not careful about what file is what.
3. Do not use AIM for files - use Outlook or some similar tool. Outlook does not store the path with the file you are transferring.
BTW, I do not use AIM either.
Good luck, .... JDHurst
