[OFFTOPIC] New PowerBook released from Apple
[OFFTOPIC] New PowerBook released from Apple
Just a note to point out the the Apple released the new PowerBook line
(www.apple.com).
ThinkPads and PowerBook are the only laptops I like; far superior to the others.
BTW, the 15" model has the acceleration sensor as my T42p
C.

Not surprised that the PowerBooks would have similar technologies as what the ThinkPads have as Apple and IBM do work together on many things. I remember back in the 90's, IBM and Apple shared the same "flip-up" keyboard designs on their laptops.

Apple and IBM
First, Apple never had a flip up keyboard on their laptops (I've owned almost all of them), but they did have little feet that allowed the whole rear of the laptop to be raised.
Second, all of the new PowerBooks, not just the 15", have the new hard drive protection. Not sure if its the same as IBM uses, but I know it is on the systemboard and noth the drive itself, allowing it to be used with ANY hard drive that Apple puts in there.
Apple has a patent on this, so it is probably a different system, at least in terms of how it works rather than what it does.

The IBM Active Protection System in the systemboard as well.
Also allowing it to be used with any drive that is installed.

Souds good.
Seems they both patented different ways to do the same thing.

Re: Apple and IBM
No, because I kow someone with a PowerBook that has the keyboard that flips up to allow easy access to the internals, just like you have with the 360, 365, 75x and 76x series ThinkPads. Next time I see him around, I'll ask him what model it is.asiafish wrote:First, Apple never had a flip up keyboard on their laptops (I've owned almost all of them), but they did have little feet that allowed the whole rear of the laptop to be raised.

Keyboard
Plenty of them have easily removeable keyboards, you pull it up from the back and then slide it out, but flip up, like the 770 THinkPads for typing angle was never offered on a PowerBook, they used the feet instead.
