I'm sort of collecting Thinkpads, mainly T42 and T61 models in various guises. It started when my old Lenovo cheapo died last year and I decided to buy a decent modern laptop. That took the form of a six year old refurbed T430, which was and is brilliant.

Having started, I began buying any cheap T42 or T61 that I could find, and now have about fourteen in total. The idea is to sort them out and resell them, but so far the reselling is yet to happen.

I got hold of a lovely little X30 in working order recently, and a W530 as I thought that the T430 wasn't quite powerful enough. I want to do some video-editing.

So the 430 and 530 are there for practical reasons, but it's the 61 and 42 models that I like the most. The keypads and little lights remind me a bit of an aircraft cockpit or a ship's engine room. All they lack really is a temperature gauge and a speed dial.

You need to get yourself an Altair or PDP machine then!

I've shifted my focus elsewhere over the last couple of years, but I do have three of my favourite ThinkPads (A31p, T43p, X60T) that are not going anywhere. My "daily" machine changes from time to time on a "one in one out" basis...

Financially, I would've been much better off not re-discovering my old passions and staying with collecting ThinkPads instead...

Just as safety is the opposite of fun, hobbies are the opposite of having money! But personally, I'd rather bet a little bruised here and there having the time of my life broke than sitting around afraid of every corner with a wad of cash in hand.

Fair enough, been there and done that BUT when you get to a certain age being constantly broke gets *very* old and tiring... :D

We need a "Like" button for this! :)

I do collect ThinkPads, but mostly R400, and up. Mostly T420, T440p, and W540. I do lots of gaming, CAD, Gimp, and Photoshop, so I need fast machines with decent video. ALL my ThinkPads T500, and up, have Radeon, or nVidia Graphics..... Except for one of my three, T440p's, that has only HD4600 graphics. However, the MB is a bit flaky on it, so I bought a new T440p board, with the nVidia, GT730m graphics on it, to replace the old board with.

I'm thinking of starting a You-Tube channel (Practical Outdoor Survival), that will be done on my W540.
