Delete sync data on Microsoft account

#1 Post by ThinkPad560X » Sat Aug 17, 2024 6:48 pm

So I am trying to delete sync data on Microsoft account but can't find it. I made sure to uninstall OneDrive as I don't want it nor will ever use it. On the MS account it shows OneDrive and Outlook. OneDrive is 0% and Outlook is 4%. I lost my local account on Edge, running Windows 10, meaning I lost my favorites and passwords and auto entries.
Apparently, nothing is saved like favorites in the My Documents "Now User name" folder. It was trying to tie my MS account to the computer which is set as a local account, and I deleted it, the email one and not the local account one. But it still deleted the local and kept the outlook one.

I contacted MS and they told me nothing can be done. Maybe you should SYNC your data to your MS outlook account next time and they were the ones to end chat. I told them this machine I want as a local as it was for doing billing. I did install windows 10 on another ThinkPad before and fully linked my MS account to the machine only to find my ThinkPad was a brick if not connected online and couldn't log into windows offline. So, I only want a local only account on all my machines.

Anyway I tried searching to see if can delete that data from the MS account such as favorites and other account passwords saved to their cloud "Server" and can't find anyway to delete sync data. It only says to go on said device and turn off auto sync and then to OneDrive and delete data. My OneDrive says 0%, But if I log into a pc with outlook account it will add favorites and other add-ons you installed before.

I am not a huge browser person so the stock IE before and now Edge is fine. I just check email, billing and web forms and news videos.
I do not want to use google chrome or use gmail. I do have firefox if I need it. The only reason I still use Microsoft outlook is because my email from back in the 90s is a Hotmail account.

I am thinking of switching to Linux fully, My T560 is running Linux Mint 20 something and been running well for it testing.

What a nightmare. More good reason to never touch the Windows 11 fork.

I have a personal microsoft account that I don’t use and an organization account that uses microsoft 365 and google suites. All my laptops run local accounts only. My iphone is linked to appleID where things seem more user-controlled.

Of the big 3 i find microsoft the worst.

Install e.g. Thunderbird on your machine, then download/copy or forward all your Hotmail stuff to Thunderbird.
Delete Hotmail.
Delete M$ account.
Bye Micro$haft!

I just watched this about windows 11. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAhzGfetESQ and wondering if anyone did install on unsupported hardware. I am thinking people will either get the same water mark "Installed on Unsupported hardware" can't upgrade to the latest feature update or if Microsoft would really force a downgrade to Window 10 on those machines through an automatic update just to force people off windows 11 on unsupported hardware.

Here's a general advice - spend less time watching stupid non-informative clickbait title videos where the guy just talks slowly to his screen, and more time setting up your PCs the way you want them, and enjoying them.
