Is Gateway computers drivers gone?

#1 Post by ThinkPad560X » Wed Apr 03, 2024 12:24 am

I saw that Gateway computers are back and from reading they are only sold at Walmarts and they are not true Gateways but just logo pasted Acers. I went onto the Gateway website and there is only Windows 10/11 laptops only. No desktops, well there are 2 AIOs. But went to support to see if there were past drivers for old Gateway PCs if there are fans of the Gateway machines like us here with ThinkPads, and no I didn't find old drivers nor on Acer's website. So, unless an archive website of drivers is around, there is no official driver page for like 2004 and older machines.

Acer used to keep a healthy catalogue of drivers up to the XP era of machines, until like last year where they dumped basically all drivers that aren't for windows 10...
Now you're gonna have to resort to either archive and restore discs or see if driverscollection will have the right version for it...

That sucks, glad we got the ThinkPad community, and I think Lenovo still has drivers for them as well as for IBM Aptiva, NetVista and early IBM ThinkCentre.

I know Dell still has drivers as far back to 2000s, Optiplex and probably older. My Optiplex GX260 drivers were still their last time I needed drivers.

yeah since also there are certain Acer models that want say specific version of realtek hd audio drivers for the subwoofer to work properly for example.
Lenovo does still have the drivers for the old thinkpads too. Just I prefer to use the chinese newthink.lenovo.com.cn for that job instead.
Dells driver support actually goes further than lenovo for thinkpads. the full suite of every dell latitude drivers, from the original latitude xp (486) onwards are all available. Even earlier portable computer drivers are under the retired models section.
HP has drivers for every business class Compaq/Elitebook/Probook/Zbook from the initial post-HP Compaqs onwards. Pavilion and home Compaq driver pages are gone but the softpaq ftp servers are still live. Omnibook drivers are nowhere to be found.
