Returning A Thinkpad

#1 Post by Leon » Mon Jul 12, 2004 5:19 pm

If you return (RMA) a laptop bought directly from IBM within the 30 Day period, and you want the exact same unit, do you hava a choice between:

1) Returning it and placing an order for another; or

2) Asking for an exchange (so you don't have to "excercise" your Credit Card?

You can do it either way. You can also ask them to cross-ship the replacement but it will tie up your credit card for two payments until they receive the original. IBM are also slow issuing credits on your card so I would probably just exchange it. You will be without a computer for a couple of weeks though.

I called sales dept just today and asked what the return procedure is and the CSR asked me who initially serviced me. I told him I ordered it online, and he asked me to send an email to them online to initiate a return.

Why is it I can't do it over the phone? Do I need an RMA number? I bought mine in Canada. I assume I just have to send it back to their Ontario address.

Reason why the credit card return is slow is I guess they need to verify the system is 100% before they credit your account.
