Today I decided that I need to install winxp along with Linux on my new 7200 drive on my T40, as wine didn't work with some of my games. So I called IBM UK, and asked for the recovery cds. The person on the other end of the line just asked for type, serial and personal details before confirming they will send it within the week. 2 minutes, no questions asked and I was done. Mind you, this is a 6 month old Thinkpad! This is not the first time it happens, as I even got recovery cds for my 6mo X31 as well as my 2.5yo T23 with NO questions asked! They are always friendly and very quick to reply, although I (thankfully) never had to question their technical knowledge after 15 or so Thinkpads. So if anyone from IBM UK is reading this, keep up the good work!

A good word for IBM UK support...
Mine was the same. Name, addr, thinkpad model, and serial # was all they asked for.
Not sure if that's because they somehow have record that this is within the 30 days though. I didn't register the thinkpad online.
(IS there any advantage to registering? I thought as long as you produce the receipt you should be able to get your warranties.)

I asked for recovery CD's for my 18 month old X30. I was asked the usual model, serial no. and confirmed I was still under warranty. But they also asked why I needed them. I was then told someone would call me back - which they did. He asked the again why I needed them and then said he'd post them.
I guess it depends on who you speak to initially.
