Windows 11 & Ironkey

#1 Post by JPOESQ » Tue Sep 24, 2024 2:17 pm

I just migrated from an X1C G5 running Windows 10 to a G12 running Windows 11, and my Ironkey S1000 encrypted USB thumb drive won’t work. It works fine on all of my Windows 10 machines but when I run the unlocking executable the executable thinks that I’m running Linux and need to run a Linux executable. I’ve searched the web for a solution and come up blank. The manufacturer (Kingston) can’t figure it out either.

Ideas would be welcome. TIA.

That's very strange indeed.

Did you try running the executable in compatibility mode?

Yes, I tried each of the compatibility mode settings and also running as administrator. I’ve also run sfc and dism (although this is a factory install) and all is good. I can see the device in explorer and device manager.

I also just found out that my bios is 1.33 and 1.31 is the latest on the Lenovo website. That’s off topic but interesting to note.

Sometimes perseverance is the key to success. I solved this problem today.

My backup software is Macrium Reflect. One of the features of the software is called CBT (changed block tracker), which functions to keep track of changed blocks and use that information for faster/more efficient incremental backups. CBT and the Ironkey do not play well. I don't know if CBT is a good idea for backups or not but it prevents the Ironkey software from functioning.
