Best time / place to buy a P52?
Best time / place to buy a P52?
Lenovo has IBM employee purchase program, and current sale is 30% off. I've seen much bigger discounts in the past, but I wonder if that's as good as I'll see, unless I wait for P53 to be available. Is there a reseller likely to do better? TIA, Charlie

Don't know about your region, but in other regions discounts above 15% Off is quite rare, and folks would jump for just a 15% discount.
Just look at this:
www.lenovo.com/sg/en/deals/special-offer
P72: 4% discount
P52: 5% discount
P52s: 5% discount
P1: 10% discount
X1 Extreme: 5% discount
Do enjoy contemplating the specs for your shiny new P52

Re: Best time / place to buy a P52?
Thanks for your comment! Glad I'm getting a good deal. As retired IBM, I used to get better discounts on TPs.
My P52 should arrive around April Fool's Day. I got it with 8GB RAM and default 500GB hard drive. I'll get 32GB and a 500GB SSD or NVMe - need to decide which. I'll probably Laplink the existing W510 programs to the HD, then Magician the HD to SSD. I would like to put Linux on the bare metal and run Windoze in a VM, so much to investigate first. Looks like it will be a sweet machine. My W510 is nearing nine years, so even with SSD and 32GB RAM it wheezes sometimes. An advantage to buying top of the line is that with an upgrade or two, they keep on working nicely over the years, no matter how much Microsoft tries to kill them.

Good choice
There's a hands-on review of P52 with similar spec as your choice!
It garnered 88% rating, which is quite high for such a respected site.

Thanks - excellent review. It should be here tomorrow PM. Had I read that review I would have bought a NVMe 1T drive aftermarket. Instead I got an SSD, which won't go in the machine with the hard drive it comes with. So I'll have to Magician to the SSD. Not a big deal.
I'll report my experience and impressions to Thinkpads.

Getting an SSD to replace the disposable spinner placeholder is the way to go. I ordered my P52 (I cancelled the P72 I was going to buy after reading too many BIOS issue posts) with one so I'd get the SSD cable which isn't otherwise supplied. I threw in 64GB more RAM, disconnected the WD spinner, installed a Samsung 1TB nvme and will fill the other slots with an nvme and an SSD later. Windows 10 runs nicely on KVM with a Ubuntu host.
Two 32GB SODIMMs are easily to install after removing the bottom cover, and if I want more RAM later I'll go through the modest hassle of exposing the slots beneath the keyboard.
