Get to play with a P73

My scope of work seems to be changing, as the company I work for (Managed Services) is deploying a ton of Win10 machines to replace old Win7 machines, pending the abandonment of 7 by Microsoft early next year.

Anyway, I get to prep and deploy a brand new P73 tomorrow, and I am looking forward to playing with it. I may take a picture or two, before applying asset tags and other identifying information...

EDIT: Changed to P73 from P75

Let us know the specs and when they go 'off-lease'.

Did P74 go the way of Windows 9?

I mean he could always be talking about the IBM P75, a 486 transportable from the early 90s.

P73 brought back wireless status indicator alongside drive activity indicator. Unfortunately they are white and not green.

Why? I thought those were powerful high end systems...

It may be powerful, but it feels so plain. I'm not feeling the "Thinkpad" feel. I mean its got the red trackpoint and touchpad keys, badging and the red thinklight.

As I'm typing this, looking at a T400, I'm thinking....maybe its because its so large (17" screen) that the wristpad bezel is wide open...making it feel bare.

My P53 feels about as good as my T60s an T61s. Certainly better than my W510/20/30s did, and probably on par with my T440p and W541. Overall the replacement unit (1st one got RMAed for a bunch of issues) is really great.

Still want a centered 7-row though, lenovo...

The speaker styling is one of the biggest false advertising flops on the P70 series, see the true location of the "stereo" speakers: https://i.imgur.com/prkBsOj.png

I agree on that feeling and im tend to lean towards the size of the laptop ( i own P71 ) but im enjoying more and more every time im using my laptop.
P.S. is it angle of how you took picture of your P73 or TouchPad and all palmrest area is bigger and taller then P71 ?

Goddarn it. True on the P53 too. I'm incensed by that fake grill flush all the way to the left...right next to the Dolby logo too. What nerve.

Well, before that, I was most annoyed by the lack of dock connector on the bottom. Oh yes, I know about the Thunderbolt 3 dock, but, the added plus of a true dock was the tilt-up quality I remember from my old 760 days. That, and the cooling clearance offered...which is even more important on a model like this with bottom facing vents. That there's no true dock also takes away from that ThinkPad feel.

Yes, that was the biggest disappointment when I received P73 - at first I thought one of speakers was broken.

After that I realized CPU is soldered in. Somehow I took socket as granted, since a year ago I sold Dell M6700 where I even replaced GPU to 980M...

Intel stopped producing socketed mobile CPU's around 2015 IIRC. Since the xx50 generation all CPU's are soldered.

The last ThinkPads with socketed CPU's were the T440p/T540p/W540/W541
