A475 Mouse/Trackpad not working

#1 Post by Bruce Guttman » Tue Jun 28, 2022 6:50 pm

I have an A475 (20BK-0018us) with non-functional trackpoint and trackpad.

They used to work, but suddenly stopped.

Running Linux Mint 20. 12 GB memory.
The BIOS says the trackpint is enabled.
It runs fine with a wireless mouse. Keyboard works although trackpoint doesn't.
I've pulled it apart and reseated all the connectors for keyboard and trackpad.

I've tried all the things I can find (mostly "enable within Windows" -- but I'm not running Windows).

Incidentally, I have a similar problem with a Thinkpad T450S running Windows 10 32 Bit (4 GB memory, Also showing enbled in BIOS; also within Windows. Works fine with wireless mouse. I've replaced the trackpad and the system board with the same result.

I have several other machines (T450S, E450, E545) without this problem. All working fine.

Any other things to try? I've downloaded the A475 BIOS to try an update, but I'm not sure that's the answer.

Follow-up I managed to install Windows 10 Pro and the mouse is working. Hope one day to guess the Supervisor password. System seems to be working OK otherwise.

Hello,

i got a used A275 and the Computer works fine (dualboot Windows 7 + Ubuntu 22.04).
But the FanCurve is a bit noisy, especially in Linux, the APU seems to be putting off much heat.

Wonder how the A475 behaves in this department?

Have you set/or use TLP or cpu autofreq? It's needed to mimics windows powerconfig drivers..
X220 with Win 10 21H2 Fedora 38 XFCE 4.18 (official spins)
i7-2640m, disabled Hyper Thread, Temp Drop on average 10*C, all core activated, need KVM for Windows
12gb RAM (enough for now, DDR3L)
480 Kingston Fake SSD
64gb Samsung SD Card
Recently rolled back to Windows 7 from Win 10 21H2. Sad

thanks, have not used it yet thoroughly on A275, but managed to receive A475,
this laptop does not have such issue and is in fact quite silent, very much to my like.

have changed fan in A275 to a newer one, now it better, but still bit noisy;

it is true that with newer linux on these first gen "ryzen"(not-excactly) amd thinkpads you better have Windows onboard, since when loosing battery and you boot into linux first; you most probably won't have any trackpad-trackpoint motion available;
this happens both on A275 and A475;

booting once into Windows and then back into Linux solves the issue;
have not found away around this , yet, but since i am using a NVME in WWAN not much so of an issue, just minor annoyance.

both laptop very good, just wish had 16:10 screens.
