Hello!
I recently purchased a used ThinkPad T14, and I have encountered an issue with the Supervisor Password (SVP) setup. After attempting a few passwords, I am now facing an error code E0199.
I have come across discussions where some individuals have mentioned shorting the SCL and SDA pins as a potential solution to bypass this issue. However, I am unsure if this method is applicable to the newer ThinkPad T14 Gen 3 models. Additionally, I am having difficulty locating the BIOS chip on this particular model.
Could you please provide guidance on whether this method is still effective for the ThinkPad T14 Gen 3? If so, could you also help me identify the location of the BIOS chip on this model?

Re: T14 gen 3 bios chip location
If any more knowledgeable people know of another method of removing the password please correct me, but currently, no "easy" method exists to remove the supervisor password on the Thinkpad T14 gen 3.
This method where you short the pins doesn't work for the Thinkpad T14 gen 3 because it uses either the MEC1723 chip or the NPCX997 chip. The newest generation of Thinkpads that the mentioned method works for is the xx30 generation.
There is a way to remove the supervisor password on the T14 gen 1 and older generations of Thinkpad but it requires expensive tools like the RT809F and I haven't seen anyone find success with this method on the T14 gen 3.
You could send it to Lenovo for board replacement which will not be covered under warranty, or you could also swap the motherboard yourself, though all the ones that I have found are upwards of $300.
If you still need to know where the chip is for any reason, it is on the motherboard, on the side opposite of where the CPU is located, next to the I/O and labeled ThinkShield.
