Wireless Capability-How can you tell?
Wireless Capability-How can you tell?
Ok, going to show everyone how computer literate I am. How can I tell if my T23 is wireless capable, or rather, if it has a wireless card in it? I know that some have them and some don't. What do I need to look for/at to see if it is? Thanks
Ron

According to the tabook:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitu ... awbook.pdf
(look at T23 Fall 2001)
You will see that the 4MU has a modem only and the 4NU has wireless and modem.

Not sure what boxen means? Typo? What I am saying is mine already had the antenna in the machine. It is just a matter of popping in the mini pci card, and plugging in the little antenna, you are correct plugging in the antenna is probably the hardest part. Then load the driver. Think there might be a bios setting too.
What does the antenna look like? I've TWO cards in there; one that looks like a memory card slot like you said and another smaller card. It looks like there is two wires connected to the bigger of the two.

No, mine doesn't have that. It has one black "flat" type wire that connects to the card at the corner. There is another one of the same type that connects to the other card. It doesn't look then that it is upgradeable. I think I'll take GomJabbar's advice and not fool with it. Gives me another reason to upgrade computers, eh?

Allow The Free Online Dictonary help out on what boxen are. Since ThinkPad laptops were modeled after the traditional black-lacquered Japanese lunch box, this term applies to them, too (i'd guess). (Hope the first part didn't sound condescending :)Kyocera wrote:Not sure what boxen means
Ooh, and lemme second (third?) the CardBus/PCMCIA solution. I mean, if you check out the installation instructions for the wireless MiniPCI/Antenna combo, they tell you how to route the cables from the display into the bottom case. Those cables should end up where the MiniPCI card(s) are installed. Fom the above, I take it that no additional cables end up there, so i'd venture to guess, "no cables, no antenna".
cheers,
