I had compared the x40t vs the x31 i owned and these were my experiences.
I guess extra weight comes from the glass(?) + whatever is inside the screen, it is clearly thicker. And to fight this, they put smaller batteries into the standard version? Just guessing.
However my 1.6 kg x40 tablet had 2 hours battery life w standard battery vs the 4 hours in the x31, same weight. This i remember very clearly. (i sold the tablet about a year ago)
But again, this difference seems to decrease with the 60 series, and I think in general its definitelly worth buying.
I just wouldn't say there are no trade-offs.

OK, I decided to check the ever-so-handy tabook.pdf and compare X41 to the X41 tablet, both with the 8-cell battery. The results?disturbedsaint wrote:Why would it consume more power?
What are the specs of both of your machines?
If an X60 tablet has the same configuration as an non-tablet X60 (and the same battery), I don't see why it would consume more power. The digitizer might consume a little (not sure though), but that isn't even going to reduce the batterytime by half.
I also doubt it will be (much) heavier.
It might have to be reinforced somewhat more, but no way it's gonna be 1,5times as heavy.
- The tablet version weighs an extra 300g (0.7 lbs)
The tablet version is 29 mm deeper (1.2")
The tablet version is 5 mm thicker (0.2")
The tablet version is 6 mm wider (0.2")
The tablet version batteries are rated to last 0.6h longer (!)

But there are rumors that the X60 tablet will have an SXGA+ display, which might draw more power than an XGA display.disturbedsaint wrote:Why would it consume more power?

It might ... but SXGA+ is supposed to be an option. And in that case, should compare apples to apples.pianowizard wrote:But there are rumors that the X60 tablet will have an SXGA+ display, which might draw more power than an XGA display.disturbedsaint wrote:Why would it consume more power?

I am really waiting for the X60t as well. I love my X60s, and if they release a tablet version that does not make me give up the durability, I might have to spring for it, even though I was hoping to keep my X60s for a while. I've just been running into situations left and right where I though "If only I had a tablet."

I would really like to know why the bigger size is necessary.
Funy about the battery though, since the Tablet's display is brighter and has a digitizer added.
As long as it's an option no-one will mind I think.pianowizard wrote:But there are rumors that the X60 tablet will have an SXGA+ display, which might draw more power than an XGA display.
+It's a tradeoff I (and probably others) am willing to make.
Regarding the new X60tablet screens---
12.1” XGA wide angle display (170°) comes standard with Anti-Glare/Anti- Reflective coating , now with dynamic screen rotation that anticipates and adapts the screen orientation to how you want to work!
Plus 2 other new screen choices:
Optional models available with SXGA+ resolution enable more data, crisper detail, and a better ink experience comes standard with AG/AR coating (max resolution 1400 X 1050)

Where did you get the info from?
Sounds like some sales-brochure.
The auto-sensing was already mentioned somewhere I believe.
About the Multitouch/touchscreen-option:
Can either option (Pen/finger) be disabled? Or better yet, will it be auto-sensing?
And can both options (MultiTouch and MultiView) be combined with both displays?

Since the tablet seems to have only been delayed (and delayed...) for Vista, hopefully people won't have to wait any longer than that to start ordering.

I don't know; making a new X6X Series Tablet with a better screen, more performance, and the same robustness and durability whilst fitting in more mechanical complexity of a hinge that makes it into a convertible tablet, and figuring out just where to put the rest of the stuff.....not to mention extensive testing before it goes out to the clients such that it holds up the Thinkpad name.zyphria wrote:Sheesh, how difficult can this be?
Should only be just a little while longer.

This may be what we'll see for the "MultiTouch" screen

so you think it will have vista... did the 'sales brochure' not mention something about this?Tab wrote: Since the tablet seems to have only been delayed (and delayed...) for Vista, hopefully people won't have to wait any longer than that to start ordering.

I never saw any such information. I'm surprised they're coming out with XP Tablet Edition, but I guess it makes sense as corporate customers might not buy Vista machines until they can do their own acceptance testing of the OS.somlaifischer wrote:so you think it will have vista... did the 'sales brochure' not mention something about this?
Personally I'm pretty disappointed with what they're offering but I still might order one in a month or two.
