Can I delete folders \ibmtools and \ibmwork??
Both of these folder take almost 2.5 GB and if they're not needed, I would love to delete them!
Help appreciated!

So nothing in this folder is used by the system? I guess the installed versions of the apps and everything they need reside elsewhere?egibbs wrote:Not sure about ibmwork but ibmtools can safely be deleted. Back it up to CD first - if you ever rebuild the machine that is the only copy you have of the free IBM apps (DVD player, etc.).

If that is the case, what is the purpose of the folder? Why does IBM keep installer versions of all of these programs on the drive? I'd love to gain the 1.16 GB this folder is eating.
Thanks, but I'm still confused. What would I need from it? Are there programs in there that aren't installed by default? I don't mind backing it up to a DVD, I'm just trying to get an understanding of what purpose it serves.egibbs wrote:I would back up the folder itself to a CD, so you don't have to do a full from scratch reinstall if you just need one something in it. After that it is safe to delete ibmtools.

I'm pretty sure it contains applications and updates, and the information to allow the IBM/Lenovo Software Installer to determine what version you have installed, so it knows whether to install an update or not.

I actually did delete ALL IBM-related folders I could find on my computer (besides the ones in %programfiles%). No harm done. The next time i wanted to check for upgrades, etc. I had to reinstall System Update, reboot and that's it.Terrahawk wrote:I'm pretty sure it contains applications and updates, and the information to allow the IBM/Lenovo Software Installer to determine what version you have installed, so it knows whether to install an update or not.
